Modification of Home Page Article Block

I would like to change the default display of the Home Page Article Block. I just want it to display titles, not a caption of the article content.

Is there an easy way to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, my blog still has “Left Column Widget Please log in…” I would also like to remove this. I’ve added widgets, but this message is still displayed.
