how to create a theme for inclusion into the themepack?

hey guys,

I love what you do, so I thought, that as I might add further themes to my wpmu install, I could also modify them so that they can be included in the theme pack too.

I think it might be a good idea to post what criteria a theme should fulfill to be included and what changes need to be done to it.

If you are interested reply here

I for one, want to stand out from the crowd  so I can’t only offer the themes from the theme pack  which means I have to download, test and modify themes. Why not make it so that they can be included in the themepack for others to benefit too?

Now if we can get a more or less complete list of what you guys do when modifying a theme for the themepack, that would take a lot of work away from you meaning you just have to verify the theme is ok to be included and not do the actual work.

Thats the theory at least

We’ve battered around the idea of setting up a private trac over at assembla.com or somewhere else and doing something like this. I know on our installs, we’ve written Page templates for most of the themes (Did that for wp.com as well but they didn’t want them.) but it would be a pain for James to add them all in there manually. Also considering some of the code comes from clients, I really don’t have permission to put it out on the net although I’m sure there wouldn’t be any issues with making it available to the premium folks here.

As an aside, we need a name. “Premium folks” don’t cut it.

Not sure how many folks here understand the concept of svn anyway. Ditto on patching and submitting them. I’m pretty sure we’ve all down the idea of writing up a new ticket on trac though.

    Isn’t that a vicious circle?

    1) Want to stand out, add more themes outside of themepack.

    2) Had to modify those themes, share back with themepack.

    3) Back to step 1.

Just me personally, but I think the themepack is pretty good with the numbers where it’s at. Mainly because it’s a good start, but also gives the room to allow for more options outside of the themepack, thus allowing for some to take it a bit further if they so choose.

I realized that myself, as soon as I wrote it, but I thought: what the heck, there’s no lunabyte around to come poke around  but there’s a luke now continuing just that tradition of reminding us of our obvious errors

But don’t worry I got you exactly right, actually I have done a little newbie bashing on the general wpmu forum as well today, so feel free to get back at me

And to resume the topic I started here, it was just an offer trying to give a little something back to the community

Oh Ovi, luke is such a teaser. It means he likes you.

We’ve actually tossed this idea around a few times. One issue is some of us want certain changes to each theme, while others want different or conflicting changes. And then you have to be careful of licensing. Some don;t allow for redistribution, and some designers just get plain cranky.
