Plugins in MU-plugins folder don’t show

Hi, I’m new to WPMU and I am wondering about the installations instructions.

If I upload the plugins into the MU-plugin folder as instructed, how can I activate them? They don’t show in my plugins dashboard. Only the ones in the regular plugins folder are displayed.

All I can do is upload them into the regular plugins folder, activate them there and then activate them sitewide. I checked – they are not copied or transfered to the MU-plugins folder but remain in the plugins folder.

This makes me wonder…

do I have to manually add the plugins ALSO into the MU-folder or is it o.k. to leave it like this?

Are the installation instructions outdated and refer to a previous MU release? Or is this a theme related issue that I somehow cannot directly access the MU-plugins folder?

And what happens if I don’t want to use a plugin "sitewide" but have this feature only for my main blog?

Any ideas?

    1. They are automatically activated.

    2. No, put plugins that you want activated across the whole site automatically and those that extend the core in mu-plugins, and those you want to activate on a per-blog basis in the plugins directory.

    3. If you don’t want to use a plugin sitewide then put it in the plugins directory.
