update notification plug in

I must be missing something, my wordpress says to update the update notification plug, I go to the site via link do the download. I unzip the file, when I try to upload via plugin installs when I click on the update folder it opens with 4 files these won’t load. I’ve also tried to upload the zip file and it says the file already exist. If I already have it why is it still telling me to up date?

    What do you mean it won’t load? Is it giving you an error?

    The files are already there on the server, but it simply means there’s files with the same names – doesn’t mean they’re the exact same files. You’d need to replace the old files with the new files.
