wp-admin isn’t working

I can login to my site and I can see the pages, but when I try to do any work in the dashboard the screen is blank.

    Hello Tiecia !

I did a check of your site and found that there’s a 500 error on the wp-admin pages. This means that there’s either a configuration error on the host (unlikely in this situation) or there’s a PHP error that happened after the recent upgrade – I’m guessing that’s the case here, especially that the WordPress version of the site is still 5.0.8 and current WP version is 5.3.2. This may be causing issues after upgrading plugins and themes, as many developers only support recent versions of WordPress.

I checked the debug.log output which usually gives a lot of insight in those cases as to what exactly is causing the issue. However, this time it didn’t give me any relevant data to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.

To further diagnose the issue, we’ll need your permission to disable all plugins on the site.

You can do that yourself as well by the way – the method we use is to temporarily rename the wp-content/plugins folder via cPanel, relaoad the site so WordPress notices the plugins “aren’t there” and disabled them in the database. Then you can rename the folder back to the original name. WordPress won’t reactivate the plugins again, instead you should be then able to log in to wp-admin and activate them one by one and see which of them caused the issue when you get the blank screen again.

Once you establish which plugin was causing the issue, you can disable it from cPanel by renaming only it’s folder.

Please let us know if you’d like us to proceed with the test or do you want to do that by yourself. In the latter case, please let us know which plugin was causing the issues so we can continue assisting you and look for a possible fix to the situation. In any case, we’re happy to help with the issue.

    Kind regards,
    Pawel

    WOW Pawel,
Thank you for looking so intensely into my problem! Thank you also for the instructions on how to fix this.

As suggested, I have change the Plugins folder name in C-Panel and then checked the website and it worked! I then changed the plugins folder back to its original name and now the site is broken again. : (

Can you please go ahead with trying to fix it from your end?
I will go in and delete the plugins in the folder that I no longer need.

If I have any luck I will let you know on this thread,
Thanks again for explaining it all to me.
    Tiecia
