Email accounts for client subsites with domain mapping

Hi,
I want to migrate all my clients to my network (WP multisite).
How can I to offer (and manage) email accounts for my client subsites with their own domain (domain mapping)?
Thank you,

    Hi Guilherme Negreiros

    I hope you’re well today!

E-mail accounts at WPMU DEV Hosting can only be created for primary (main) domain of the site (hosting plan) so neither mapped domain of mutisite nor any additional domains added to hosting can have their own accounts, I’m afraid.

If it’s about e-mails for customers then it’s also a matter of a limitation of only 10 e-mail accounts per plan with up to 100MB of total size of single e-mail account and attachments no bigger than 15MB.

This is because it’s meant to be only a basic, kind of “transactional”, email service used mostly for things such as registration e-mails and other e-mails related to site itself, basic contact forms and similar.

In this case it would be recommended to use external, dedicated e-mail service such as GSuite, Zoho or similar as they all allow you to host e-mail services in your own domains. Hosting the site with us doesn’t limit e-mail use to WPMU DEV Hosting as it’s a matter of DNS MX record (and some related records such as DMARC, SPF) configuration while site can still fully be hosted with us.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hi Guilherme Negreiros

Some host e-mails with us but mostly those who use these e-mails for their own purposes, not on a large scale but most of those Member who do need (either for their own use or for their customers) “full featured” e-mail hosting with multiple accounts, different domains, all the “bells and whistles” of customization, significant amount of space for mails etc – they do use external e-mail services.

I think GSuite is one of most popular. I often also see Outlook/365 though it can sometimes be pain to setup at MS end (due to various restrictions and strict policies).

That’s pretty much “independent” to site hosting. Basically, you set the site at WPMU DEV Hosting, point your domain (via A/AAAA/CNAME records) to us or move entire DNS hosting to us and then signup for such e-mail service. They usually provide guides on how to configure DNS and the basic change is simply setting MX records.

There’s no “integration” in that sense that e.g. you can create e-mail account for your client at GSuite directly from The Hub (WPMU DEV hosting) or from your site’s back-end, I’m afraid, so once DNS is configured both these things – website and e-mail system – are hosted and actually managed separately of each other.

But if you’d like some more insight from actual Members that do host sites with us but use external e-mail services, you might also want to post a question on our Members forum here:

    Best regards,
