[Snapshot Pro] More reliable Snapshot Backups

0

PLEASE can the devs improve the reliability of Snapshot backups. It’s getting to the point that we cannot rely on Snapshot PRO to be able to successfuilly restore websites that have become corrupted. We have had a few Snapshot failures in the past to the point that we can no longer trust that it will be the backup solution of choice.

Today’s error: Link is invalid or resource is not available. The backup is sitting in the HUB. :-(

Please work on making the Snapshot plugin a more reliable solution considering that we are paying for the PRO version to be part of our agency tech stack.

Many thanks
Andre

    Hello Andre van der Merwe

Trust you are doing well today.

I can understand your concerns, and sorry to hear you have issues with Snapshot backups.

We are currently enhancing our snapshot backup processes. In our latest updates, we have modified several backup methods to prevent failures during both backup creation and restoration.

I understand that there is still room for improvement, but the creation and restoration of backups depend on several factors, some of which are beyond our control. For example, the available resources and limits of your website or hosting can impact this process. Additionally, some hosting providers do not support more reliable methods for exporting files and databases. As a result, the snapshot plugin may have to use an alternative method that is slower and less reliable.

I will bring your request to our snapshot development team’s attention, and we appreciate your concern and suggestions.

The error you mentioned is quite rare, so we need to take a closer look to identify the cause. If you require further assistance in resolving it, please create a new ticket and provide us with your site information.

    Kind Regards
    Amin

    Hi WPMU,

I been using for years, not to say the product is not great, but when comes to “complex” website, the backup / restore always have issue. I also appreciate WPMU live chat support that you guys will do your best to solve it, but I observed quite a number of times in the past that Snapshot Pro is live chat support graveyard.

I’m totally understand the frustration from Andre van der Merwe . I experienced it multiple times until I’m no longer using it for very important website, OR, the funny part is I have 2 “backup plugin” for it, just in case Snapshot pro can’t do it’s job again.

May I suggest that Snapshot team to:

    1) Reduce the promises and features (for example, backup / restore subsite) that having high failing rate. It’s basically bring down the product’s image.

    2) Conduct more QC. Use crowd-sourcing, since WPMU have great community platform, utilize us. BUT, please change the rewards for Snapshot, since it’s required higher amount of time to test and report the bug.

    3) Enhance your “pre-flight check”, focus on most popular hosting environment.

I’m not a experienced programmer and it’s been a while I do code. I can imagine the complexity of backup/restore VS so many types of WordPress environment. However, after a while, it might sounds more like excuse than the real challenges.

Lastly, I still have little faith that with WPMU great team, not just Snapshot team, you guys can get it over, but PLEASE work on different strategy/approach.
