[Hosting] Consideration for supporting .dk domains now that Punktum.dk moves to a registrar model

0

Hi WPMU DEV team,

I wanted to bring to your attention a recent and upcoming change from Punktum.dk, the registry for .dk domains, which may be relevant to WPMU DEV’s roadmap for domain management features.

As of 1 July 2026, Punktum.dk is moving entirely to a registrar-managed model for .dk domains. From that point on, all new .dk domains must be registered and managed through a registrar, and the old direct registrant model at the registry will be phased out by 30 June 2028. Under this model, registrars take full responsibility for administrative tasks such as renewals, nameserver changes, contact updates, and billing.

This aligns .dk with other TLDs in terms of how registrar interfaces and reseller platforms can provision and manage them. Given WPMU DEV’s do punktum.dk’s change means .dk domains are now technically feasible to support in the same way other domains are:

• Domains can be provisioned and managed via registrar APIs instead of requiring end users to handle them separately at the registry. It can be unified through the registrar layer.

• Users could experience a seamless .dk domain experience inside the WPMU DEV dashboard or related tools.

Could you share whether adding .dk domain support is something on the roadmap for WPMU DEV’s domain management features? If not, this seems like an ideal time to consider it, especially with the mid-2026 registrar transition approaching.

Happy to provide further details or sources on the registry changes.

Thanks!

    Hi stromworks

    Hope you are well.

Thank you for bringing the potential for adding .dk domain support to our attention. Your suggestion is noted as a feature request, and the decision to include it in our roadmap will be considered by the hosting management team.

We do plan to continue adding support for more ccTLDs over time (similar to how we’ve added .us, .com.au, etc.). At the moment, we don’t have a specific ETA for .dk.
If and when .dk is considered, we’ll review the new registrar-managed model, the available APIs, and how it fits with our current domain provider.
We appreciate your input and will keep you updated on any developments regarding this feature.

Thank you for your valuable insight.

    Best Regards
    Aamir
