In fact, many of our members are already doing that.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re working full-time and juggling family, social and volunteer commitments, mastering WordPress is within your reach \u2013 and there are so many resources available for free that if you do have time you have absolutely no excuse!<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re willing to put in the time you do have free, it\u2019s easy and quicker to master WordPress than you may imagine.<\/p>\n<p>This post offers a step-by-step guide for<em> intermediate users<\/em> who want to become competent with WordPress over seven days.<\/p>\n<h3>First Things First<\/h3>\n<p>This guide makes a few assumptions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You have used WordPress and have the software installed (obviously!).<\/li>\n<li>You have at least two-three hours per day to learn WordPress.<\/li>\n<li>You are familiar with HTML, CSS and some PHP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So let\u2019s get stuck in&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>Monday<\/h3>\n<h4>WordPress Codex, WordPress TV and Make WordPress Core<\/h4>\n<p>If you think the <a title=\"WordPress Codex\" href=\"https:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Codex<\/a> is only for beginners, think again. The Codex is, essentially, the WordPress bible and contains pretty much everything you need to know about WordPress.<\/p>\n<p>Every time I head to the Codex to quickly look something up, I always end up finding more than I had anticipated and learn something new. Every time.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, many of the articles are dry and encyclopaedic, but there is information on everything from working with themes and writing plugins to contributing to core development.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a visual learner, <a title=\"WordPress TV\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.tv\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WordPress TV<\/a> contains hours and hours of presentation recorded at WordCamps around the world.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to search for videos on any topic and learn from well-known developers such as <a title=\"Andrew Nacin\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nacin\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Nacin<\/a> (core developer) and <a title=\"Mark Jaquith\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/markjaquith\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Jaquith<\/a> (also a core developer).<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re interested in where WordPress is headed and want to contribute to core, it\u2019s a good idea to bookmark <a title=\"Make WordPress Core\" href=\"https:\/\/make.wordpress.org\/core\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Make WordPress Core<\/a>. This is the official blog of the core development team for WordPress.<\/p>\n<p>The site features regular updates on new features for upcoming version of WordPress. If you want to stay on top of what\u2019s happening in WordPress, this is the place to be.<\/p>\n<h3>Tuesday<\/h3>\n<h4>Getting the Most Out of Themes<\/h4>\n<p>Understanding how themes work is crucial to learning WordPress. Choosing a theme for your site is usually the first customization you will make to your site, so it\u2019s important to know what you\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n<p>The first port of call is the <a title=\"Theme Development\" href=\"https:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Theme_Development\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Theme Development<\/a> section in the Codex. This section offers a solid grounding in how themes are built.
