WP Tavern explores the past 12 months (and almost lists their 2014 archive) in a couple of\u00a0comprehensive posts (<a href=\"http:\/\/wptavern.com\/a-look-back-at-wordpress-news-in-2014-part-1-of-2\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/wptavern.com\/a-look-back-at-wordpress-news-in-2014-part-2-of-2\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) that look at last year in WordPress news.<\/p>\n<p>Post Status\u2019 Brian Krogsgard has left design and development agency Range to focus on consulting \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/krogsgard.com\/2014\/following-dream\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and re-launching his WordPress news site with a membership model<\/a>. The site will offer individual and corporate yearly membership and is expected to launch on January 21. For more background, check out Brian\u2019s post from back in September where he talked about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poststat.us\/radical\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the future of Post Status<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New rules around VAT on digital goods kicked in on January 1 in EU countries. The new rules affect all companies (EU and non-EU) that sell to consumers inside the EU. To find out more, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.woothemes.com\/2014\/12\/handling-eu-vat-woocommerce\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">check out WooCommerce\u2019s post on their new Taxamo extension<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ManageWP have teased users with a preview of the next version of their WordPress management service, dubbed <a href=\"https:\/\/managewp.com\/managewp-orion-official-announcement\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ManageWP Orion<\/a>. It promises improved performance, async actions, better usability, a clone wizard, optimized scheduled backups and in-depth client reports.<\/p>\n<p>WordPress tweaking service Elto, formerly known as Tweaky, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elto.com\/blog\/well-be-back\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">have suspended their services<\/a>. According to the company\u2019s blog, the company is working on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poststat.us\/elto-shutting-down-temporarily\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new product experience<\/a>. No date has been publicly set for when the company will re-launch.<\/p>\n<p>Envato have published a list of their top 50 new WordPress themes of 2014, as well as their <a href=\"http:\/\/marketblog.envato.com\/resources\/50-new-wordpress-plugins-2014\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">top 50 new WordPress plugins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vip.wordpress.com\/2014\/12\/17\/the-year-in-vip\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WordPress.com VIP has grown<\/a>. During the past year, the service has surpassed 28 billion page views, added 350 new sites to the VIP network and hired 13 new staff members.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, and in case you missed it, <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/news\/2014\/12\/dinah\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WordPress 4.1 was released on December 18<\/a>. Here\u2019s Post Status\u2019 rundown of the latest version, named \u201cDinah.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Looking Forward, Looking Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Who do you follow in the WordPress community? As reported by Phys.org, Foursquare, Reddit, LinkedIn, and StumbledUpon all crashed when the leap second ticked unexpectedly into place.\u201d On June 30th at precisely 23:59:59, the world\u2019s atomic clocks will pause for a single second. The phenomenon is forcing web engineers to create workarounds, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2015\/1\/7\/7508651\/leap-second-2015-earths-rotation-slowing\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as The Verge explains<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@noeltock\/wordpress-in-2015-ed6a4674a608\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Noel Tock from Human Made has published his 2015 predictions for WordPress<\/a> and writes that we\u2019ll see a diversity of custom dashboards, front-end editing will become the norm, and that it\u2019s time for the community to become decentralized (shock horror!).
