\nEvery year toward the end of the year, Technorati publishes the results of a survey they run called \u201cState of the Blogosphere.\u201d<\/a> This survey attempts to catalog who bloggers are, what they blog about, how much money they make, how much they blog, how they use social media, what they think about current blogging and technology trends, and more.<\/p>\n

It is a fairly impressive report, and it\u2019s a must-read for anyone who\u2019s into stats (as I am).<\/p>\n

Below are a few stats I\u2019ve pulled out of the various reports Technorati provides that give a broad overview of who bloggers are these days. For all other info, you\u2019ll want to head over to Technorati and go through their results.<\/p>\n

Bloggers by Type<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Hobbyists:<\/strong> 61% of the respondents said that they were blogging hobbyists. In other words, they blogged for fun, not for any professional reason.<\/p>\n

Professional Bloggers:<\/strong> The other 39% of the respondents said they blogged for professional reasons. Technorati broke this group down in the following ways:<\/p>\n

Professional Part- and Full-Timers:<\/strong> 18%. Independent bloggers who either blog full or part time as their job. \u00a0(Part-time bloggers = 13%, Full-time bloggers = 5%)<\/p>\n

Entrepreneurs:<\/strong> 13%. These bloggers blog for a company they own.<\/p>\n

Corporate:<\/strong> 8%. These are bloggers who blog for a company that they work for. This includes both full-time bloggers whose primary job is to blog for the company, and part-time bloggers that take on blogging responsibilities as only one part of their job.<\/p>\n\n

Sex<\/strong><\/h2>\n

About 60% are male.<\/p>\n

About 40% are female.<\/p>\n

Age<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The majority fall into the age range of 25-44. However, 33% are over the age of 44.<\/p>\n

Professional full-time bloggers are typically older. 72% are over the age of 34.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Marriage<\/strong><\/h2>\n

More bloggers are married than not. About half are parents.<\/p>\n

Entrepreneurs (63%) and professional full-time bloggers (56%) are more likely to be married than hobbyist bloggers (51%).<\/p>\n

Most Educated<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Corporate bloggers \u2013 55% have some graduate level education.<\/p>\n

Professional full-time bloggers \u2013 41% have some graduate level education. (31% have a graduate degree)<\/p>\n

Number of Blogs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The average number of blogs that are run by the blogger:<\/p>\n

Professional full\/part-time: 3.5<\/p>\n

Entrepreneur: 3<\/p>\n

Corporate: 3<\/p>\n

Hobbyist: 2<\/p>\n\n

Blogging Platform<\/strong><\/h2>\n

WordPress is used by 51% of the bloggers.<\/p>\n

Blogger\/Blogspot is used by 35%.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Topics<\/strong><\/h2>\n

And finally, the topics. As the Technorati report reveals, most professional bloggers end up writing either about tech or business<\/strong>. It is still interesting to see the overall topics that bloggers write about, and for that we can get an idea by looking at the most-used tags used in Technorati.<\/p>\n
