Anarchy Plugin for MU

I’m a “newbie” and could use a little help with the Anarchy Plugin. Plugins in generally are a little difficult for me because everyone uses a little bit different format for their zip files. I’m a little dense sometimes and prefer step by step instructions in an index file.

In the video tutorials, I see a menu for AMP but when I upload the Anarchy Plugin to the MU folder I don’t see any settings menu. I believe the instructions say you can configue the file in a text editor, but how do I install Anarchy in MU where everyone will see the AMP button/settings like you have it in the video tutorial.

Thanks,

Todd

    Yes they are fine.

The plugin/widget architecture in WordPress MU is a bit confusing and I struggled with the difference between “plugin” and “muplugin” folder (isn’t the only difference that plugins, widgets in the last one are automatically installed upon creating new blogs?). A small explanation of these things would have been nice.

    Hi Todd,

The key thing with AMP is to make sure you use the WPMu server version (Beta) rather than the WordPress 2.x version, once you’ve downloaded it, extract all the files, go down this path anarchy-media-wpmumu-plugins and then copy the files in that directory into your mu-plugins folder… let us know how you go

    Cheers, James

    Thanks James,

I have it working now. Just a note that I don’t believe the download file from the regular WPMUDEV site is the newest version of the Anarchy Media Player. When I downloaded the newest version from the developer website it installed and worked just like you said.

I guess this episode illustrates what I assume is confusing to others as well. It’s tough to know which versions of things to use with WPMU. Some plugins are MU specific, some regular WP plugins might work (Widgets, Bad Behavior maybe?), some regular WP plugins that have been modified will work in MU. I know the two different types of plugin folders, but it’s been difficult for me to know whose done what and which hack/versions work based on the WPMU forums which is why I’ve suscribed to your service.

I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m lazy, but I’m like most everyone else in that I don’t have enough time and I just can’t devote a lot of time just on WP issues. I’d just like to know which plugins will work with MU, where do I download them, and what are the installation instructions so anything you can do in that regard to simplify that process would be great with me and I suspect a big selling point to others.

P.S. You guys have been very responsive and helpful so far and have saved me a lot of time trolling through the WordPress MU forums. The ability to save time was probably the main reason I subscribed to the Premium site so it’s already very obvious to me that I made the right decision.

    Keep up the good work.
