Anti-Splog installed. Now, new users can't register.

So close… I installed the Anti-Splog plugin just now, and everything appears fine. No errors on install: API key, domain and IP address got the green “OK”. Screens in Site Admin all appear without errors.

However, when you go to http://www.MY-WPMU-INSTALL.com/wp-signup.php and fill out the form, clicking “submit” does nothing. It doesn’t go to the second page of the form where you specify the subdomain, etc.

So, as of now, nobody can register for a new blog. How can I fix this? If needed, I can provide the actual URL to the signup page.

I have a client with this problem right now, and no Blog Types plugin. What’s worse, when removing Anti-Splog, signups are totally broken.

The same client is also having trouble with the IP address, probably due to the fact that the site is hosted in Amazon’s cloud. Could that be the culprit?

Registration is open, the problems arose when a couple of plugins from WPMUDev was installed, such as Anti-Splog, Admin Message, and Default Theme. Removing them doesn’t help.

Please advice. Registration has been disabled for the time being, since it just reloads to the register page anyway. Client is not happy, especially not after having bought the 12 year plan for Anti-Splog in particular…!

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply, Aaron.

Making sure that Anti-Splog is up to date was the first thing I did. There is no BuddyPress install in this setup at the moment, so that can’t be it.

The Amazon server uses Nginx, could that be it? Or the fact that Anti-Splog won’t accept the API key because of several IPs?

It shouldn’t prevent signups if you don’t have an API key added. It just won’t check them. Since you don’t even have it installed anymore I would think that it is some other issue. Are you sure you have removed all traces of any plugins? Also, it would help to have a link to check it out ourselves.

Problem is, just removing the Anti-Splog files won’t help, it still misbehaves which is scary. Perhaps Anti-Splog is saving something in the database that messes up things?

I have opened up registrations again (although they are not working, still) so that you can take a look. It is late in the evening here, I’ll close them again tomorrow morning.

I really don’t know anyway it can affect the signup if it is fully uninstalled. It’s most likely another issue. Please check your error logs, and try overwriting your wp-signup.php file with a fresh copy in case there are any issues in that.

Other than that you will have to try disabling all plugins to see if it is one of them. A quick way to do that is renaming the mu-plugins and plugins folder.

Aaron, I know that the IP check has been removed for the time being. (I can;t find the thread right off and I’m nearly out of time.) I’m giving this a test on the testbed. I’m going to need to change Ip addresses in a couple of days. Will there be any concern for changing IP addresses? Will there be a need to notify you or reset the api registration for that site?

    thanks,
