**Current Limitations:**
1. The Broken Link Checker currently displays all source pages that contain a broken URL, but only allows for bulk editing across all instances. This “all-or-nothing” approach forces users to apply the same replacement link across every page.
2. The interface only shows the first 10 source URLs and merely indicates the total number of additional pages containing the broken link. There is no way to export or expand the list to view all affected URLs.
3. The current display doesn’t show the anchor text used on each source page, making it difficult to understand the context of each link without visiting each page.
4. There’s no option to specify whether the replacement link should open in the same tab or a new tab.
**Requested Improvements:**
1. Implement a selective editing feature that allows users to:
– View the complete list of source pages containing the broken URL
– Select specific pages using checkboxes or a similar selection mechanism
– Apply different replacement links to different groups of selected source pages
2. Add functionality to expand and view all source URLs (not just the first 10)
3. Provide an export option to download the complete list of source URLs for all, or a given, broken link with an additional column where we can specify the correct link and upload the corrections to BLC
4. Display the anchor text used for each link instance on the source pages
5. Include an option to specify whether each replacement link should open in the same tab or a new tab (target=”_self” or target=”_blank”)
**Why This Matters:**
These enhancements would significantly improve link management by:
– Allowing content-specific link replacements based on context
– Enabling users to see the full scope of the broken link’s impact across the site
– Providing visibility into how the link is presented to users (anchor text)
– Giving control over the user experience (same tab vs. new tab)
– Facilitating better decision-making with complete information about all affected pages
This feature suite would dramatically improve workflow efficiency for content managers, especially on large websites with diverse content sections and multiple content creators.
