Can I create a network on a domain mapped subblog?

0

Hi, I was wondering if the following scenario would be possible with either the Multi Domains plugin, the Domain Mapping plugin, both together or neither!

I have my network up and running, domain.com, offering subdomains.domain.com

I currently use Donncha’s domain mapping plugin to allow mapping of cooluserdomain to cooluser.domain.com, but might switch to the WMPU dev version if needed (if it ain’t broken….

I want to set up another subdomain in this install, lets call it new.domain.com, and have new.com map to new.domain.com. That part is easy, but can I use the plugins then to:

(1) create subdomains off that mapped subdomain, i.e. newsub.new.com etc

(2) domain map those names as well : user.com goes to newsub.new.com?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers

    Hiya,

The short answer is no, I’m afraid.

You can have a network within a network, so to speak. It’s just not possible.

One way you could try is by creating a new site on your server for new.com. This would be entirely separate though, so a separate WordPress install.

You’ll then need to do something clever with your server config if you want to use wildcard subdomains on both sites.

    Cheers!

I rather have WPMUDEV test it out and use it to add functionality (the wonders of GPL).

If they can do it, then Incsub should surely be able to do the same?

Not just because I already paid a year’s subscription to you and hoped that this would prevent me from paying again for similar plugins and not just because I assume that the dev plugins will be updated with available technology and knowledge, but also because I do not want to sign up for yet another support forum, yet another update system etc.

    Cheers

I see your point, accepted – none of us like paying more than we need to

I’m gonna move this into feature requests to see if anyone else wants the feature, and see what the devs think. If it sounds popular then we can look at including it.

Is there any update about this?

Over a month ago I complained that support and feature requests were ignored and all promises of improvement around. I have not had a single answer in over a month on any of my questions/topics.

huuu definitly YES using multidomains + domain mapping. I have 2 networks working like that.

I do it without any problem BUT :

    – The registration will anyway be on main site with the choice of all domains you want to offer.

Using Buddypress, activating the multiblog buddypress option, the registration process will so be on the site you are registring on, BUT ALL domains will be offered in the choice list.

There is out there “Multinetworks” plugin that does exacly this. Did not tested it, but have a look on it.

    Hiya guys,

As always with feature requests we’ve opened this up to +1s but as you can see no-one has bitten I’m afraid.

We’ll continue to do our regular surveys though and if it comes up and something really highly desired then we’ll look into it.
