CloudFlare 'cache everything' page rule bypassing 'Privacy Mode'

i actually tried the 'cache everything' page rule in CloudFlare (example.com/*) a long time AFTER turning on 'Privacy Mode' and most of the site would still show in browser. sometimes the login pop up would appear but if ignored other pages would still be visible. this was noticed in FireFox. can anyone replicate this ? if so i can only guess that cloudflare already had files cached to show and therefore its being pushed from their edge which makes sense. however if someone wants absolute use of 'Privacy Mode' can this be achieved without having to log into CloudFlare and remove page rule and flush etc.?

    Hello amused,

I’m not sure if I understand correctly – you enabled cache on CloudFlare on site (on WPMU DEV hosting) and that site was already in Privacy mode and after that, you were still able to access the site and see all the content?

Can you still see that – is cache on CF enabled? I checked your site and I cannot bypass Privacy Mode.

    kind regards,

    Kasia

    yes sorry,

i did indeed remove the ‘cache everything’ ‘page rule’ from CF and also did a ‘purge everything’ in CF.

so thats why i asked if anyone was able to replicate it as i did not want to leave it in that state.

i guess its not that a big of an issue because if someone has the ‘privacy mode’ on its usually because they want to work/edit a site and its not good practice to edit/make changes to a site that is fully cached.

but as i mentioned, if possible for wpmudev hosting to be completely hidden with a quick simple switch of the ‘privacy mode’ button, without having to log into CF and remove rule/purge cache etc. would be convenient.

if any of your devs have CF i guess you can test it out and see exactly what i am referring to.

i hope i have explained myself clearly so you understand and appreciate my point/suggestion.

please dont hesitate to ask if i need to clarify further,

    kind regaards.

    Hi amused

    How are you today?

    Thank you for your clarification.

Did you have this problem only on Firefox?

I tried to replicate using some browser, like chrome, firefox, opera and couldn’t reproduce the problem, as you said, a cache on CF could cause it, I will keep my site running some more tests and trying to replicate the problem.

    I used only the

    example.com/*

    – Cache everything, do you have any different rule on CF?

However, if you are editing the website, I do suggest using the Development Mode on CF as a best practice to avoid pages stay cached, and you be able to see the results on real time.

Let us know if you need any further help on this.

    Best Regards,
