[Defender Pro] multiple Defender reports (over 500/day)

I have been getting multiple notices “Defender Lockouts” over a few months now. Today I received 500. I have recieved support in the past, but the problem persists.

    Hi tony

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

When and how those notifications are being send, depends on the settings on “Defender Pro -> IP Lockouts -> Notifications” page mostly (apart from the number and frequency of lockouts themselves). The biggest number of notifications is usually generated by 404 detection so if there’s too many of them, you can consider switching those notifications off entirely and instead only use scheduled reports (Defender Pro -> IP Lockouts -> Reporting).

However, if you want to keep them, the “Limit e-mail notifications for repeat lockouts” option should help in limiting them.

I’d also recommend updating Defender to most recent 2.2.3 version as it contains some improvements that might be affecting that too.

If that all together doesn’t help, please enable support access to the site so I could check it. To do so, go to the “WPMU DEV -> Support -> Support Access” page in site’s back-end and click on “Grant support access” button there and let me know here so I could check the case.

    Best regards,
    Adam

Thank you! I have granted support access. There’s a record of the emails in the “Email Tracker” plugin. I must also add that I’m getting a similar issue with Backup Buddy notifications.

    Cheers
    Tony.

    Hi Tony,

It seems that the emails are repeating every minute for both Defender and BackupBuddy, and this could mean that there’s something interfering with cron jobs so you could try replacing WP Cron with Real Cron Job and see if that solves the issue.
You can find some info about that in the post below or check with your hosting provider:
    https://www.iceable.com/blog/optimize-wordpress-replace-wp_cron-with-a-real-cron-job/

It’s also possible that there’s some conflict on your site causing the emails to be sent like that and in order to check this full conflict test by disabling other plugins and switching to default WP theme would be needed.
Before performing this test I would suggest creating a full backup or do a test on a staging site where you can replicate this issue.

    Best regards,
    Predrag
