[Defender Pro] Rename Theme, Plugins, & Other Paths

0

I remembering asking for this when I first joined the com but never heard any word after that. I would really love to have this functionality added to Defender Pro as the point of renaming is security. I currently have to use 2 additional plugins (WP Rocket & WP Hide) to get my desired results. WP Hide & the plugins from here always conflict so it can also be easier for the devs to have this functionality to minimize the need of having to resolve conflicts with them.

The 2 additional plugins come with similar functionality like cache, the ability to disable some WP functions, & one-click combine of CSS/JS which is just making my setup disaster-prone.

    Hello Jonathan ,

We have brought this request in the past to the Defender team and they have decided that hiding WP is not a security feature so it won’t be added to the Defender.
However, it seems like it fits more Branda plugin, so I will bring it to the attention of the Branda team because I don’t see that we have this in the Branda pipeline at the moment and they will discuss it further.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

Jonathan as Kasia mentioned, hiding your WordPress version and what plugins/themes you are running does not improve your security (which is why you mentioned you were doing this) when dealing with automated bots trying to breach your site. A good article on this can be found here. That’s why we’ve chosen to not pursue this in our plugins. It also (as you note above) causes problems when doing this. In general, keep your plugins up to date and keep strong passwords are the least you can do

    Hope this helps.

I don’t rename for bots, I do it for people who are looking at what was used to build the website. If you don’t want to add it’s fine, I already paid for WP Hide lifetime, but I expect to have these conflicts resolved as they arise in a timely manner as the conflicts are usually site breaking.

Jonathan Fair enough! Can you provide specifics of:

        1. What plugins break?
        2. What particular features are conflicting/stop working?
        3. What features of WP Hide cause issues when active?

That should help our devs uncover the issues and resolve the conflicts with WPMU DEV plugins.

        Thanks!
        Andy

Okay, I meant future conflicts caused by updates as the recent issues were already resolved, I have found another conflict today but it does not break the site instead it causes The Hub to throw error 404s when trying to do anything within it.

It is caused by enabling this feature in WP Hide

          Block other wp-*.php files
Block other wp-*.php files. E.g. wp-blog-header.php, wp-config.php, wp-cron.php. Those files are used internally, blocking those will not affect any functionality. Other root files (wp-activate.php, wp-login.php, wp-signup.php) are ignored, they can be controlled through own setting.
