Home page theme settings

Hello everyone,

I am new to MU WordPress and i have 2 questions please:

1- those 100 themes pack, where do i put them exactly ? In the users theme folder or in the main theme folder ? And which one will work best for my main site?

2- on my main home page (my main blog) how can i put the log-in or registration box, list of the blogs or chosen 10 best blogs or last 10 blogs,..things like that , how i can add them on home page and which them you suggest for that ?

Thanks !!

    1) They go in the wp-content/themes/ directory. Not sure what you mean by the users’ theme folder. Do remember that you need to activate those themes before your endusers can use them. I strongly suggest doing them one at a time and testing them fully instead of turning them all on at once.

And which one will work best for my main site?

Those are end user themes, not a home theme. Most folks design their own, depending on what they want displayed on their home site.

    2) Best bet would be to search the mu forums as this has been discussed at some very long length and many times over. Andrea wrote up a walk thru about the wp.com theme:

    Hope this helps,

    Thank you drmike

but isn’t there at least one or tow themes that are ready to use on my home page as a fast solution , then later i could go back and costumize it ?

What about the cleanEdu or the CMS , can’t i use them as a start on my homepage ?

another question please….to translate a few themes is there a spesific file in each theme that i can translate ? lately i bought a theme (newspro)that has one file if you translate it , you are almost done….is there any themes that has flexable translation method in the 100 pack themes ?

    Thanks you !

I have a new install going up currently. We’re tearing apart a blogger theme for that site’s home theme.

but you will still have to add things

Also considering that we all pretty much have our own solutions to each of those, there’s no real one solution that fits everybody.

Again, you may want to read Andrea’s article as well as look over the mu forums. Even in Andrea’s article, a number of times she points at two or three plugins for each item on wp.com’s home page.
