As a long-time WPMU DEV reseller and advocate, I’d love to see WPMU DEV evolve its hosting reseller platform from “reselling hosting” to “selling ready-to-launch websites.” The goal is to make the process of setting up a new site for clients faster, simpler, and more attractive — ideally with an AI-assisted website builder and automated setup flow built directly into the reseller dashboard.
Right now, the platform does a great job at providing professional-grade hosting and management tools. But as resellers, our success is directly tied to how quickly and seamlessly we can onboard clients. We’re not just trying to sell hosting — we’re trying to sell websites that happen to be powered by WPMU DEV hosting.
Meanwhile, competitors like Hostinger and others are offering AI-based website creation, multi-month free trials, and turnkey packages (for example, $2.49/month with a free 3-month site, 5 pages, 2 GB storage, and email). Whether we like it or not, that’s what the average client now expects: instant setup, visual editing, and immediate results — not a technical journey through domains, installs, and configurations.
The current reseller experience still feels “technical-first.” While that’s fine for developers, it’s not ideal for business-minded resellers who want to offer plug-and-play website packages. Without modern, guided, or AI-powered setup options, we lose potential clients to cheaper, “easier” alternatives that promise websites, not hosting.
If WPMU DEV can integrate AI-driven website creation and pre-packaged templates or onboarding flows directly into the reseller experience, it could redefine how agencies and consultants sell digital presence. It would empower resellers to focus on sales, branding, and value — while WPMU DEV powers the engine behind it.
Suggested Features:
* AI-assisted website builder or setup assistant within the reseller dashboard.
* One-click pre-built site packages (e.g., “Local Business,” “Portfolio,” “Restaurant,” etc.).
* Optional pre-configured Forminator, SmartCrawl, and Hummingbird setups per package.
* Branded onboarding flow for clients that feels like our platform.
* Optional email and domain add-ons to create a true “website-in-a-box” experience.
As resellers, we share the same business goal as WPMU DEV — to grow the platform’s user base. The easier it is for us to sell websites (not just hosting), the faster WPMU DEV grows too. But to compete with modern hosts, the user journey needs to feel modern, visual, and AI-enhanced from the start.
Let’s make website creation as powerful, simple, and competitive as the hosting itself.
