[Hosting] Jetpack VaultPress Backup Activity Log

Hi,

This feature is awesome. You can restore to an event, not a time!

    Hi Lamine

    I hope you’re well today!

I’m not entirely sure how this works at Jetpack VaultPress on the tech/infrastructure level but note also (that’s not clearly stated there right out of the box) that those backups are also subject to storage limits – which means that the ability to restore at such a granular level may still be limited in some cases.

However, you can actually achieve something similar with us already using our Defender plugin. Backup restorations wouldn’t be as detailed/precise but you would still be able to track activity.

    What I mean is:

    – there are daily (included in hosting plan out of the box) or even hourly (if you purchase hourly backups add-on) backups made for each site hosted with us

    – having Defender plugin installed, you can enable it’s “Activity Log” feature and it will store/log similar events as Jetpack does

    – while you don’t have direct link to restore backup there in Activity Log in Defender, you can find out the time/date of a given event and then identify relevant backup in Hosting backups list by that date/time.

With hourly backups enabled for site, I’d say that’d be pretty accurate.

Note though: restoring such backup will not simply restore that single specific change logged in Activity Log but will turn entire site back to the state it was at the time; still, it should provide pretty similar functionality as you linked to, just with slightly less “precision” and a few more “click” on the way.

    Best regards,
    Adam

    Hi Adam,

Make it simple and plug an play as WordPress.com and I will pay $25/month instead of $5. A lot of will, trust me.

I left WordPress.comm and join WPMUDEV because of bad support but this feature was awsome! You can restore at point where you change a setting in page or widget , it was awsome. He saved me a lot of time !!!!

Trust me, when people will understand this service at WPMUDEV user they will love it as customer or recesseler.

    My 2 cents.

    Have a good day

    Hi Lamine

    Thanks for response!

Yeah, I surely get it – how useful and handy it would be. My point (in my response) was mostly to share sort of a workaround that could give similar – not the same but at least similar – results/functionality right away, out of the box.

If it comes to implementing something like this, that’s actually exactly why we have this feature suggestion space :) It’s closely watched by project managers and developers and also other Member can provide their feedback and suggestions here as well as vote for the feature.

The more interest it gets the bigger the chance it gest implemented. Though quite often we implement suggested feature anyway – even if they don’t grab that many votes.

We appreciate every feedback and all the suggestions and while I can’t promise you adding such feature at this point, let me assure you that we take it all seriously and take all such feedback into account when making future development plans.

We’ll also keep this ticket open so other Members could vote for it – it can speed things up a lot!

    Best regards,
    Adam
