How do I change the anchor text for my users to login to their backend?

Right now the anchor text to the link that allows my users to login to their dashboard is “Profile” without the quotes. (it calls the profile.php file). I would like to change the anchor text for this to something like “click here to edit your blog” ,instead of “profile” but I can’t find the file that generates this anchor text…(I probably just can’t see for looking…I think I have opened and examined every php file in the whole MU site…:wink:

For my users (hobby woodworkers, guitar builders and such) “profile” doesn’t cut it. They need link text that tells them exactly what to do. Like: “click here to edit your blog..”

If somebody can point me to the right file, I would sure apreciate it.

What we’re trying to change is the ‘login panel and logged in users profile’ that’s part of the Triden theme options. Can the anchor text that reads Profile be changed, or is there another solution? Maybe a separate plugin?

The site is http://www.showyourwood.com

Something else I’ve noticed with this login panel…the logout takes you to a page that reads

“You are attempting to log out of Show Your Wood!

Please try again.” …Any ideas?

I’m hoping to find a solution that is a little closer to the login at wordpress.com

Re: profile: When I log in, it reloads the showyourwood.com home page. I’m looking at Welcome Back, michaelrytter, followed by a links to the Author Homepage, Profile, and Logout.

That’s created out of the theme’s profile.php file. Please take a look for this line:

<a href="<?php echo get_option('siteurl'); ?>/wp-admin/profile.php">Profile</a> | <a href="<?php echo get_option('siteurl'); ?>/wp-login.php?action=logout">Logout</a></span>

It looks like it’s hardcoded in there and you;re going to have to edit the file with what you want.

The logout link also in that line (I’m thinking that;s the one you;re looking at) needs to be edited as well since wpmu does logouts differently now. Andrew’s going to have to verify this but I would do the following edit:

Please change this:

<a href="<?php echo get_option('siteurl'); ?>/wp-login.php?action=logout">

to this:

<a href="<?php echo wp_logout_url(); ?>

You were bang-on in the first part. I did examine profile.php yesterday, but was unable to spot the line with the "profile" anchor text. (looked at so many php files by then, my eyes just weren’t seeing anymore!) With your help, I was able to change "profile" anchor to "manage your blog" which is much more descriptive for my users.

So that’s fixed! Thanks!

The second thing,changing the "logout" line as you suggested, takes out the logout link entirely, which is actually ok. They can "logout" properly from their dashboard anyway, which is where they will be after they click "manage your blog".

That’s strange as that’s how it was written in the old admin bar. (After they fixed it of course.)

The "logout" link re-appeared and now kicks them out to the wordpress login page, which is perfect!

There is also a logout for the comments. I found the code below in the comments.php file. Can you tell which part exactly I have to replace with <?php wp_loginout(); ?>

The forums are currently broken for pasting code, even if you use backslashes. Could you please put that in a text file, post it somewhere, and link us to it please? I tried for about 5 minutes to fix it but I couldn’t get anything out of it. There’s stuff that got stripped out.
