[Hummingbird Pro] Paid specialist help

0

Hello WPMUDev team,

I am not a developer – just an ordinary person who built my own company website. I am struggling to optimise my website. Can you introduce a feature whereby I can hire for some specialist help? Obviously, the free help available is exceptional and it makes your company the much-appreciated place that it is, but I can’t see someone sitting with me for hours using the trial and error approach of deferring items to the footer, and don’t get me started on ihn-line CSS. I don’t have a clue what to do! I have hired freelancers via Upwork, but they aren’t Hummingbird experts. They disable Humming bird and use other plugins, and this isn’t working for me either.

Getting performance and page speed up is very tricky for me, and I think offering an affordable service that does this for people like me would be fantastic.

Best wishes
Nichola

Hummingbird is just one tool for optimizing load times and if you hire a freelancer, and they don’t do what you tell them, you shouldn’t be paying them. I’ve found the Freelance Community to be problematic myself. I won’t even respond if they don’t clearly reply to my very specific requirements because that tells me they either don’t understand, didn’t actually read, or are running some kind of response bot.

Smush is also very useful in that it will help reduce load times from your images. And you can also use CSS to accomplish a lot of what was once done via images.

For example: there are free to use CSS generators online for box shadows, text-shadows, gradients, and radius. All of these can be used to reduce load times by eliminating images.

Hosting also plays in to it. Many hosts provide sub-par performance, not just by packing users on shared servers but also by not keeping the servers up to date. I recently migrated a client off of her GoDaddy Hosting as she was limited to PHP 5.6 and have another on Bluehost had to contact them to get her PHP updated.

And don’t try for perfect with Google or any other service that ranks your site speed, pay attention to your site traffic and drop off rates and check your site speed on multiple services. I hate to sound like Al Gore but the information Super Highway is subject to traffic jams, detours, and other issues that can impact your apparent load times and speed.

    Hi Nichola ,

Unfortunately, there aren’t any plans at the moment regarding this as we don’t offer custom jobs. We used to have a Job Board in the past but it was more with community members offering their services, which was discontinued down the road due to low activity.

You can check our partner’s page for Codeable services if you are looking for professional support:

However, each website is different and it’ll require different optimization settings, so there isn’t anyone set of steps that could be suggested. I would highly recommend opening a chat or ticket with us on what part you find difficulty in following or if you are looking to know the workflow of Hummingbird to better configure the Hummingbird settings to your needs.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin

    Hi Nichola,
I am in the same situation as you are. Having no idea what to do and how! I think Hummingbird is a great tool as long as you know what are you doing or have to do. I struggling always with speed and performance in general. Especially, when it comes to mobile performance. As I don´t understand even most of the terms what is to configure in that plugin, how we can resolve the issues which showing up? It´s a nightmare if you are not a developer or expert with this plugin. Sometimes I mess around with Hummy and it looks good, but as soon I log in the next time the problems are there again. If it is possible to set up a group online, where someone guides us through the problems to solve them by ourselves would be awesome. Like an online course or streaming live – something like that. But it needs someone who really understands Hummingbird Pro and Website optimization. Explaining the steps to undertake for resolving the problems and speeding up the site. Is there anybody out there who would like to help us? P.S.: I can provide the streaming platform for this group! Who is ready, willing, and able to give us a hand and guide us through all problems so that we can help others in the future? Who would like to join this workshop? Let me know what you think. Have a great day and never give up ;)
