[Hummingbird Pro] Seeing under the hood of Hummingbirds Automatic Asset Optimization

0

I’m getting reports that my website is using unminimized versions of some of my javascripts through the CDN. The site is setup to be using automatic optimizations which prevents me from actually seeing what it is doing. I think it would be nice if even though it is automatic we could have a read only view like the manual optimization to just see what the plugin is actually doing. Just something to think about that maybe wouldn’t be to hard to implement since the manual view is already there?

    Hi Jonathon ,

    I hope you’re doing well.

While it’s not enabled by default, you can enable it by using the following define on your wp-config.php file:

    define( 'WPHB_ENABLED_AO_STATUS_BAR', true );

You can paste it above the “that’s all, stop coding” comment, and it should add a label that says when it’s optimizing/when it’s optimized.

    I hope this helps.
    Best Regards,

That is cool, but not really what I am talking about. Sorry for any confusion. What I mean is a way to review what the automatic system is doing to each file. Like merging, does it minify and a way to review each file while still letting the system be automatic. Does that make more sense?

    Hi Jonathon

    Hope you are doing fine

Thanks for your interest on improving our products and their features.

Since the adjustments made to the files can already be seen in the Asset Optimization > Manual option, you can configure it to meet the same settings as the ones for Speedy and Basic.

IMPORTANT: Before proceeding with any of these suggestions, make sure a backup of the site is created. You may also need to go to Setting -> Reset to Default

For Speedy, as the feature mentions, it is compressing and combining files.

-Speedy Optimization goes beyond just compressing your files. It also auto-combines smaller files together to help decrease the number of requests made when a page is loaded, and automatic font optimization will speed up the delivery of fonts to improve your site score.

You can use the Manual Optimization option and apply the Bulk settings likes this, so you can monitor the changes made to the files:

[attachments are only viewable by logged-in members]

For Basic, Hummingbird will just compress files:

Basic Optimization will optimize your files by compressing them. This helps to improve site speed by de-cluttering CSS and JavaScript files, and by generating a faster version of each file.

In the Manual Optimization you can apply the Bulk settings like this

[attachments are only viewable by logged-in members]

In this way you can apply the same settings as the ones in the Speedy and Basic configurations and have a way to visualize how the files are processed.

Hope this information helps. In case you have some other suggestions please feel free to reply in this thread.

    Kind regards

    Luis
