I can't get into one of my sites – Syntax error

Hi, I hope you can help. I have a site http://www.fanfullaconstructions.com which I can’t get into. I receive this error when I google the site or use the WordPress link.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting ‘)’ in /home/fanfulla/public_html/wp-includes/post-template.php on line 1377

I contacted the theme developer and they suggested I upgrade using FTP, I contacted my hosting provider and they advised me that I will have to do this through File Manager as I don’t have FTP. This was done however it didn’t resolve the issue. I then contacted the theme developer and they suggested the following as they believe it is a WP issue. I am a designer not a developer so I am a little out of my depth and that is why I contacted you.

Theme provider response –

You can reply here with a private reply at any time but in this instance that error is with WordPress core itself. Your core files may have gotten corrupted if re-loading the theme doesn’t work.

Some other things to try are deleting the enfold theme folder from your wp-content>themes folder to force WordPress to load in one of the default themes, renaming your plugins folder in wp-conent to any other name so WordPress can’t recognize theme and defaults to turning them all off.

If the issue is still happening then you would need to either re-install WordPress or just that specific file that is having the error by downloading the core from here, unzipping, finding that file and uploading it in place of that one:http://wordpress.org/download/

cheers and hope you can assist me with this as it has never happened before. I don’t know if it linked to an issue with Jetpack as they sent security warning emails to upgrade immediately which I did with all my other sites but this and one other is down. The other one hasn’t been designed yet so it isn’t as urgent as this one.

    Hi @kinnear,

I hope you are well today and i’m very sorry about the isse.

I agreed with your developer team. This issue can cause when you upgrading wordpress, example you uploading the file name “post-template.php”, and it only upload half, and then for some reason, it’s halt.

And that’s why this error happend. I will need to take a look at your files and cpanel(your host) access

    Can you please send in:

    – Mark to my attention – ATTN: Hoang Ngo

    – Link back to this thread

    – Include admin/network access

    – Include cPanel (I will need to look at the DB so need PHPMyAdmin or similar)

    – Include any relevant URLS for your site

On the contact form, select “I have a different question”, this ensures it comes through and gets assigned to me.

    Best Regards

Hi Hang, I just tried to email you but I couldn’t, I emailed all the log in details to George as he requested I use email due to the sensitivity of the information. He confirmed that he had passed it on to you. Since I can’t email what is the best way to send this information as I really need this issue resolved?

    Thanks Hoang,

I sent an email earlier but now I have access to my mac. The site is still under construction, no work started yet so I may not have updated it like I do with all the others. In saying that it is just under a year old. That is the best I can do unfortunately, have learnt a valuable lesson to keep record for the future, sorry about that. In knowing this the site can be started from scratch if need be. If I have to go down that past do you have instructions on how to do that?

Cheers and thanks again I greatly appreciate your patience and efforts with this matter, Kinnear

    Hi Hoang

I can see that the hotbags site is fixed however the Fanfulla site I still get this error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/fanfulla/public_html/wp-includes/query.php on line 345

Which is different to the other one. Do you know what may be causing this because I haven’t done anything, well not as far as I know.

I restored Safari to reset everything and also tried it on my other Mac and got the same error, shit I thought this issue was done and dusted.

Hi Hoang, I just tried to go into it my end to check and it is asking me to update here is the text

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.

Should I do this, I don’t think I have any choice because the only option is to go ahead and update?

Hoang, I’m ptretty sure that JetPack will have to be upgraded, could this have caused my issue as the JetPack people sent out emails advising to upgrade due to security risks and I haven’t seen them do that before. That is when I realised that something was wrong because I couldn’t get into these 2 sites to perform the upgrades.

    Hi @kinnear,

This issue come from the wordpress upgrade, not the plugin. No plugin can touch the wordpress core file.

But now, it is upgraded and working, so there’s no reason to worry.

Yes, if there’s an upgrade available, please go ahead, we must moving forward right ?. And if any issue happend, so just back here and we will assist

Hi Hoang me again. Ari from your support team is looking into this error (www.rexdesignsdevsite.com) because I raised the issue a few days back. He didn’t get back to me quick enough and I had you look into the issue because I have faith in you. That is why I am contacting you this is what he said and I don’t understand it.

Hello again @kinnear, These errors are all related to your Avada theme, none of them are relevant to the Membership plugin…

You should be seing a “Fatal Error” message somewhere… that’s the message that causes your white page. The above are just notices, nothing that would cause a white page. Can you please post that fatal error message here? It should appear instead of the white page you were previously getting.

    Please advise,

    Ari.

The word fatal error concerns me and I now cant get into WP (backend of the site) I can see the front end. The fatal error that Ari wants me to send him is not there so I’m unsure what to do. Can you please look into it for me. I have a long weekend coming up and I really need to get this working so I can complete the site. I really wish I knew why this happened.

    cheers Kinnear

    Hi @kinnear,

I has updated your post to remove the acess info.

The reason why you dont see the backend, is because some plugins eat up the memory.

I think we should remove all the plugin and try again with the blank wordpress with the theme only and let see if it help.

    Best Regards

    Thanks

I still can’t get in to remove the plugins. I don’t have that many so it seems strange maybe I need more memory, I will check with my hosting provider tomorrow. I won’t be able to to do this test without getting in to the backend, are you able to access it?

Thank you Hoang, I knew it was that bloody plugin they sent out a message to upgrade straight away due to a security issue and asking to upgrade within 24 hours. I have Jetpack on all my sites could that have caused the other sites to go down?

Thank again and have a great weekend, hopefully you won’t here from me for a while

    Hi Hoang,

It has happened again. I was working away fine, then I decided to update the plugins and clean out the ones I wasn’t using. I deleted JetPack all together. I than installed Snapshots and Branding from the dashboard. Snapshot took ages so I clicked the X in the corner to stop it. When I clicked on pages the screen was white again, I them selected media and other options all white. All I see if the left hand panel with all the options and the top banner but everything else has disappeared. So this time it happened without JetPack. I then checked my memory for that site and I have allocated 2000 mg and used 902 so I don’t think it is a memory issue. Maybe I can’t use this theme with your dashboard because this issue started around the same time I installed the dashboard. Hope you can shed some light on this, cheers Kinnear

    Hi Hoang

I resolved it by going into my wordpress content file and deleting both of those plugins and also a zip file for JetPack. I really want to use those plugins and also install the SEO one so do you know if I am right is saying the theme has a conflict or should I investigate the memory issue further?

    cheers Kinnear

    Hi @kinnear,

    Thanks for your update.

Firstly, please look at this plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/,

This plugin will help you to check how much the plugin affect to your site. Firstly, install this plugin and run on your site without the “plugins-has-issue” installed. And then, install each “plugins-has-issue” and run the test, when you have the report, please post it here so we can take a look

    Best Regards

    Hi Hoang,

As advised in the last support ticket thread it looks like it is resolved the hosting provider increased my memory. I will keep this email just incase it happens again and will run it when I have more time as I would like to know how much memory certain plugins use. I need to add the SEO, Snapshot and Branding today and a couple of WooCommerce extras so it will interesting to see how it all goes. If I run into problems I will run this before I contact you be assured, cheers again Kinnear
