IE 8 displays my "edit posts" page funky – any ideas?

I use quite a few wpmu premium plugins and I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issue. I just updated from WPMU 2.6.5 to WPMU 2.7.1 and I cannot figure out why IE 8 is displaying my "edit posts" page in a really funky way. It does not do this for the "edit pages" page. Here is a screen recording of what it looks like? Does anyone have any ideas why it would do this?

Thanks in advance!

Terence

    Hi drmike

Thanks for the suggestion. Which one do you think would be a better place to post? My thinking is that posting in both places opens up my scenario to more people that may have had a similar experience. Furthermore, the premium members might be able to draw correlations with the scenario and the premium plugins that non-premium members could not make. Just my logic  FYI the display looks good in firefox, chrome, and safari. Unfortunately a large number of our users at the University are running IE. Now for the for the screenshot. Thanks again. — http://blogs.bgsu.edu/files/2009/05/2009-05-19_1034.png

Nah, just wanted to make sure you knew most folks were in both places. Hated to see a dupe of effort on your part.

I was hoping that you were talking about the TinyMCE problem with IE8 that got fixed recently in the 2.8 code but no such luck.

And the search on the wp.org forums shows 218 hits but only pulls up 30.

The only thing I see as a workaround to put a meta line in the header to force ie7 compatibility mode and now I can’t find the link.

    edit: Well here’s another one:

Thanks for the suggestion, but no such luck. The strange thing is that the "edit page" area displays correctly but the "edit post" area does not. Do you think it could be related to a plugin? I thought the "edit page" and "edit post" would look the same in IE 8 but they don’t? These kind of issue keep me from sleeping. Let me know if you have any other ideas as to why the "edit post" would do that and not any other pages.

    Thanks

    Terence

James, I fixed the link if you want to try again. There was a broken double quote in there.

You know what you could do is save that page as html on your desktop and send it though w3’s validator as a file to see what kicks out as an error.

Cool, what I noticed was that your ‘Save Draft’ button is definitely messed up as is your add new category button – and a few other things on your RHS.

Unfortunately I have no idea about what could be causing that (browser settings? have you tried different browsers?) and none of our plugins mess with that area so I might have to hand this one over to those more insightful than I!

Thanks for checking into this James and drmike. The screen does display correctly in every other browser (ff, chrome, safari, ie7) so it makes things really tricky. I’ve added an admin message that tells people to use FF or Chrome, but a lot people in academia won’t even know what that means. lol. Quick question and I apologize if it’s naive: What do you mean by RHS? And what do you mean by "messed up"? Is the code messed up? Is it messed up in other browsers even though it displays correctly in other browsers? Should I revert to 2.6.5 and then do a re-install of 2.7.1? What do you guys think?

    Thanks

I saw that thread too but since I don;t care for OS bashing and would rather see an issue solved instead of "Oh just get another browser" given as a response, I skipped over it.

It also mentioned the "Try the compatibility mode" solution as noted up above.

I did find an MS issue report with IE8 and problems with how it sees css but that was dated in early ’08. I can refind the link if anyone really wants to see it but it;s temporary solution was the compatibility mode as well.
