List all Blogs (Subsites) in the main site

I want to list all the blogs/subsite created in my multisite site network on the main site. It should also contain the images/logo of the subsite.

Hello AMTRUP ,

I have prepared a custom snippet which you can use as a guide here:

You can download a zip, unzip it and upload file wpmudev-add-shortcode-list-all-sub-sites.php to your wp-content/mu-plugins folder. If that folder doesn’t exist you can simply create it.

After that, you can use this as a new shortcode: [wpmudev_list_all_blogs]
Note, default the site image is site logo, or you can custom the image by enter the image link for option Feature Image Link on the sub-site settings page (All Sites -> Edit a sub-site -> switch to settings tab or go to this link yoursite.com/wp-admin/network/site-settings.php?id=[site_id] and scroll to the end).

If you are not familiar with mu-plugins you can read about them here:

or you can paste it in your child theme’s functions.php file.

I have a follow up question though:

–>I have set up this on a page, and yes it shows all blogs, but it dosnt link to the blogs, what can I add to get a link: https://momsterblog.dk/blogs/

–>And can I use css to style this or should the Shortcode be different ?

yes, you can. I added wrapper ID wpmudev-list-blogs or list class for child elements, so you can use this to design on your end. You can add custom CSS on your child theme’s style.css file or via the Additional CSS section on Theme Customizer.

Oh, I am sorry, but have one more Question,

Yes, I think I understand this, but the image the code is using is fro LOGO and NOT Site Icon:

When hundreds of bloggers we cannot manual change it in settings…
On our old multisite, it took the code from SITE ICON…

Hi, a late follow up:

Is there a way to show the blogs with Images in top of page (many have not set an Icon, and looks weird, and they should be shown last)

Is there also a way to makes eksklusions of some blogs I dont want to list ?

Please update the MU plugin again from the link that I sent you. And then you can custom it with some shortcode attributes:

'site__in': List of site IDs to include, separated by comma (,), ex: site__in="1,5,9"
'site__not_in': List  of site IDs to exclude, separated by comma (,), ex: site__not_in="4,6,8"
'orderby': Accepts 'id', 'domain', 'path', 'network_id', 'last_updated', 'registered', 'domain_length', 'path_length', 'site__in' and 'network__in'. Also accepts false, or 'none' to disable ORDER BY. Default 'id'.
'order': How to order retrieved sites. Accepts 'ASC', 'DESC'. Default 'ASC'.
'show_thumbnail': Whether to show thumbnail (site icon). Default is 1 (true).
'show_blogname': Whether to show blog name. Default is 1 (true).
'show_blogdescription': Whether to show blog description. Default is 1 (true).
'open_new_tab': Whether to open link on new tab. Default is 1 (true).
'mtl_if_no_icon': Whether to move the site which as no icon to the last. Default is 1 (true).
'default_icon': Enter default icon link. Default is empty string

ex: [wpmudev_list_all_blogs site__not_in=”1,5,9″ ]
