Looking to have a hidden plugin activated on everysite but invisable

I am wanting to have a plugin activated on every sub-site in my multi-site set up. The plugin would be visible to the network admin, but not visible to each admin of the subsites. (for my case I am wanting to have a hidden plugin activated so I can add custom css code on a site by site basis)

I found a link to:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/plugin-visibility-manager/

Which seems to do exactly what I want, but it was replaced by:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/multisite-plugin-manager/

Which I noticed doesn’t list 3.8 capability.

Is there a specific plugin in the premium wpmudev plugins that specifically does this?

I realize this plugin doesn’t do exactly what I want.

What I am possibly looking for is something like easy blogging tool, except for the main admin area to hide certain menu items, if anybody knows of something let me know!

You could use this plugin here http://adminmenueditor.com/ which should work, that’s the most popular plugin for this :slight_smile:

If you want a free alternative, this should work http://wordpress.org/plugins/menus/

Hi Ben…

I was facing a similar issue and found a plugin called User Admin Simplifier (details here: http://www.earthbound.com/home/wordpress-plugins/user-admin-simplifier) Download from WP Repo at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-admin-simplifier/

Wit this plugin you can create an additional Admin User… but Remove Specific Menu Items and Sub-Menu Items (such as remove the entire Plugin Menu in the Admin or just the Add New option for the plugin… hope this helps…

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for but it worked great in our scenario

In this tutorial it goes over how to remove a toplevel admin component, however I would like to create a plugin that removes this sub-menu item in the appearance section that is create by the plugin:

I don’t know if this is out of your scope of expertise, but could you possibly educate me on how to remove that from the sub-menu of appearance. I’ve tried a bunch of things, but still no luck.

Does that work in your testing…It doesn’t work for me, still see the menu item.

In my research and attempts I was led to this:

Which then referenced that there is a special trick required…

Remove custom post type submenu pages. The secret is in converting the second argument “&” to “&”.

Perhaps you can recognize how to do it, I’ve been messing around with it but not having luck.

I suppose that a admin editor plugin could be used, but let me see if I can get my colleague @Alexander Rohmann here with his valuable input.

Hey guys,

Give this code a try:
```
function edit_sub_css_menus() {

if (!is_super_admin())

remove_submenu_page('themes.php','simple-custom-css.php'); // Remove the Simple css menu

}

add_action( 'admin_menu', 'edit_sub_css_menus',999);
```
The main difference here is that I added a priority to the action to make sure it runs later. Simple CSS uses add_theme_page, which seems to run later in the ‘admin_menu’ hook. By setting a priority, we can wait until that page is added before removing it.

I also threw in a is_super_admin call to ignore the removal if you are a super admin.
