I love the idea of WPMU DEV helping with client billing. But there are two significant problems with the development of this service so far:

1. The merchant processor is limited only to Stripe. I have seen so many businesses lose their ability to charge customers in an instant, without any explanation or recorse. Their entire company grinds to a halt because they can’t charge people. Stripe has horrible support when it comes to solving these problems and never gives warning. Having multiple merchant account processors from other companies (more than PayPal and/or Square – becasue they all do the same thing) Web hosting is often considered a “high-risk” business.

2. Most hosting companies have hundreds or thousands of clients. I’m currently stuck using WHMCS. An import tool would be a HUGE help. Otherwise, I will literally have to get hudreds of clients to login to a new account and re-enter all their credentials. That will take hundreds of hours of time.

Looking forward to seeing how this tool progresses with the hopes I can make use of it one day.

Thanks for the feedback Ed Speyers we’re discussing this internally.

    A couple of points though:

re: 1 – I know that Stripe have changed a bunch of things recently but the VAST majority of people using this new bilking method appear to be able to do so just fine… and we should know, we’re a web hosting company using Stripe ourselves lol. So I hear your concerns, but that’s not our experience at all (in fact, compared to PayPal, which we used to use, it’s the opposite!)

re: 2 – Inevitably, users would have to log in to a new account using The Hub Client, but that shouldn’t be too hard on them – I do understand how moving from WHMCS to this could be time-consuming but we’re hopeful that the benefits will far outweigh any investment in the process… having said that we will consider a WHMCS importer and track requests for one to see if we can bump it up the development queue.

Thanks again for the feedback :)
