Plugins for Edublog Theme

Hi Guys,

I’m a new member and just wanted to shout out and say hi and to ask which plugins are required for the Edublog theme.

Thanks in advance

    Hi;

I believe James said that they used a couple custom plugins for that front page and they *weren’t* included. They are easily commented out and you can use those boxes for whatever you like.

Look in the front_right.php file. One section was for sponsors, and the other one escapes me at the moment.

I tested this theme on a couple different servers and the login box worked fine. that part doesn’t require a plugin.

The two features you see on the edublogs frontpage that aren’t available here are the Supporters and Site Wide Tags features.

The Supporters feature doesn’t really do much on it’s own. It’s just used to enable disable other features. It’s all manual/code edits so that plugin will not be released here.

However, we are looking to release the Incsub Site Wide Tags plugin. Now it’s not the one currently in use on Edublogs (Edublogs runs an older version) so it won’t help you guys wanting to mimic the theme but it is a pretty versatile tags feature that some of you will find useful. The only catch with it is that it’s not a ‘drop in and it works’ type plugin. You’ll have to do some work to get it to work with your theme.

We’re actually going to be releasing several ‘more advanced’ plugins in the near future. Basically what we’ll be doing is providing an example using the default MU theme in the download package. From there premium members will have to adapt the features to their custom themes, etc.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply, you might want to change the description for the theme then, as your theme’s description does not mimic your reply.

I would think a list of plugins that work and the same for the ones not included would be enough at least it is for me.

    Just a suggestion.

    Hiya,

I would think a list of plugins that work and the same for the ones not included would be enough at least it is for me.

The Edublogs theme only uses three plugins:

    • Avatars: Available on this site
    • Site Wide Tags: Edublogs runs an older version – we’re going to be releasing the latest version shortly
    • Supporters: Not viable as a premium plugin

Also note that the description of the theme is actually pretty clear. It states that it is a copy of the “theme”

Please also note this bit from the description:

Please don’t simply reuse this theme with a new logo, but feel free to hack the heck out of it (and then use it) or just plunder the good bits.

Basically we’re not expecting people (nor do we want them) to setup the Edublogs theme identical to the way it is on Edublogs.org.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the plugin list that helps a lot, no beef everything is clear and cool.

BTW I think you guys are off to a great start which is why I joined and wanted to support your efforts.

The information your providing is very helpful and worth the money.

Nah, the ‘supporter’ feature (when active by being subscribed to the support package)actually enabled a few extra features. Again though for clarity, you have to hack all of the plugins for this one to work so it’s not a good premium plugin.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
