Premium improvements

Hi Guys,

OK, we’re working on some serious improvements to WPMU DEV Premium over the next few weeks and, alongside our super-secret & super-exciting list, what else would you like to see changed / improved.

What’s missing, what would you like as extras, etc. etc.

Not necessarily plugins and themes (although you’re welcome to mention them too) but functionality around this site, features, usability and all that jazz.

So far we have:

– A fully private forum for members only

– An alphabetical A – Z listing of all plugins

What else d’ya fancy?

Cheers, James

Oh heck, I’m adding to my own thread

    – Removing nofollow from the forums

    – Building ins some bbpress signature stuff

    – Building in some bbpress ‘credit’ stuff so that the people who contribute here a lot (you know you are) get due respect!

Throwing in what I’ve suggested in the past:

    – Putting the themes on a trac somewhere so they can be built on. I know our folks like adding in Page Templates (ie Author pages, list of posts, etc) although some of the stuff we do it site specific. (ie Most read posts. We built that around one of Lester’s plugins)

    – User contributed plugins although having the private subforum will solve this as we’ll be able to hide the download links. (ie CSS editor, Blog of the Day)

    – A Jump to the top link here in the forums. I noticed someone else commented that they were on their iPhone recently. Sliding up and down on those is a pain. bbPress is not very iPhone friendly though.

I hate to bring this one up again but having the plugins be set to use the defined charset of the mu install instead of not having any declared charset and therefore using the server defined one would be a plus. While most of our accounts are defined to use utf8, outside of a few foreign language (not mu) platforms that default to asian charsets, I’ve run into a number of installs that use latin1 and that causes the occasional issue.

Not sure if you’re aware of this, Andrew but a recent plugin even had a “charset=latin1” hardcoded in there. That seemed to make the concern worse.

    Thanks

My improvement is very simple, and to be honest, I didn’t read the suggestion above.

A tutorial/help/support per plugins… There should be a page with a tutorial for plugins, with usage example, etc.. (for instance, the Lester Chan site where you have a nice html file in each plugin with usage examples, etc). I know there is a file in the plugin wich redirect to this forum. Nice. But for me, It’s not enough. I alway manage to find a solution myself, but I make a lot of google and search to find the solution. Or at least, a dedicated forum per plugins with a (some) sticky post for usage examples.

Have to admit that I find Lester’s site confusing but that’s probably just me. I know a couple of years back, it seemed like he was just copying and pasting the instructions and usage example over and over again, no matter what the plugin was for. Some of it didn’t apply. It’s gotten better though.

Just to throw this in for us on ipods, can someone place a forums link on the welcome back page within the text? The menu along the top is too tightly packed to hit the right link.

Cool – we’re working on a new version of the site now and I hope can include a lot of these things (themes by trac won’t be in it unfortunately – but themes are next on the cards pretty much after this has been done).

So unsticking this in preparation for a new thread once the new site has been released (a couple of weeks at least before that though)
