Search Multiple blog sites

I would like to know if there is a plugin or a way to search all blogs signed up. For the public viewing, they want to be able to search for all blog sites. I looked up for any plugins around and not really sure what to find. Any help here?

    I’ll have to agree. I can’t imagine the overhead to search across all blogs in even a modest install of a couple hundred users. Google would be the way to go, or install and use your own SE. Although the second option still requires your own resources.

    What Andrea suggests was what we were doing way back when when I was doing the sitewide tags by using a regular wordpress install and importing into that. Just use the search function for that blog. We were removing posts out of there after 90 days to try to keep the db manageable though.

    Pretty much unless you’ve got the cash to shell out for another box and setup your own search engine. Probably be a time waster though as you would have to manage that and support that software.

    We’ve also been looking into picking up a Google Mini for the large mu install that I host. A complete solution and it would allow you to fine tune the searches and results. The $3k for a basic level box would be in line for about a year’s worth of hosting for a dedicated box, the software’s already included and ready to go.
