    Hi Rob

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

I’m not much familiar with nginx configuration but I can ask our second line support for assistance and I believe we could solve that.

However, I think that there might be much simpler and more universal solution for this

The sitemap file generated by SmartCrawl is in /wp-content/uploads/ folder of your install. In this case, the direct URL to the sitemap would be

    https://www.sXXXXXXXXXXland.nl/wp-content/uploads/sitemap.xml

If you try to visit it in a browse, you’ll see that it loads. But Google doesn’t require sitemap to be necessarily in a root folder. It’s a common practice and it’s easier to access that way – that’s why there’s this redirect so it would be available from “https//yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml”.

However, you can simply submit that direct URL to Google Search Console and that should work equally fine. You can also add it to the robots.txt too so Google would know where too look for the sitemap and while that wouldn’t be the most “elegant” URL for the sitemap, it shouldn’t make any difference for SEO.

This way, there’d be no need to play with any nginx configuration. Would that work for you?

Let me know please and if necessary, I’ll involve our developers in this to solve the original redirect issue

    Best regards,

    Adam
