[Smush Pro] Batch/Cron job for image processing

2

Hi,

Currently we have a manual batch job to smush images OR an automatic smush as they are uploaded. What I often find is that the automatic “Smush on upload” can slow down the upload of images quite a bit (understandable). What I would like to see is an admin option to have automatic smushing done via the cron.

So you upload an image and its marked (automatically) for smushing. The next time the job runs it then gets smushed. This will keep the admin interface speed up and not mean remembering to smush manually.

Regards

    Hi,

    something new about this feature?

It is must-have one. No matter how many votes etc. it will have. It will drastically improve entire editors/administrators experience with Smush (uploading images).

It is something what can improve Smush plugin for a huge step.

    Hi Jiri ,

Thank you for your feedback, we value your input and understand your thoughts here.

We have looked into this matter and want to inform you that unfortunately, we still don’t have any specific information such as ETA to share at this point. Still, this feature remains on the team’s list. Let us hope more members vote for this as that would possibly help with prioritization. Anyhow, we have added this as another vote, which will further highlight its importance to our team.

In the meantime, you can stay updated by visiting our Roadmap page to see upcoming and new releases:

    Hello Jiri ,

I hope you are doing well.

I added that PHP snippet as a MU plugin on my lab site and there was no error. Everything was good. So, we can say it is safe to run on the production site. However, testing that first on a staging site is better.

Also, I am unsure if this snippet will still work because I couldn’t get enough time to test it. You can give it a try and let us know if this snippet works.

    Kind Regards,
    Fida Al Hasan
