[Smush Pro] Unexpected SERP drops and image crawl errors on GSC – want to drop Smush pro

Hi there! I recently joined up for the free trial to see if the smushing would speed up my site’s images and increase my rankings. Unfortch, I would not actually pay for the full price product going forward as I don’t have the budget. However, it’s caused some still unresolved crawl errors and huge SERP drops for some key revenue-driving posts, that’s it’s important for me to re-rank. As I mentioned, there is no budget to carry on a subscription past Jan 27 when my trial ends, but due to the issues I actually want to end the Smush Pro trial sooner than that. I wanted to ask a question first – and that is, that if I stop the Smush trial, will all my images still ‘work’ ok and appear fine in my blog posts? I’ve thousands of images and don’t want to risk causing a calamitous issue that I Can’t afford to fix. I saw somewhere that they are located on a CDN, which obviously I would want them located back on my WordPress server now. I want to make sure I safely deactivate the plug in, but will probably go on using the Smush free version after I pull the plug on the free trial of the paid version. Thanks

    Hi Zoe ,

Sorry to hear about your unwanted experience.

Once your trial ends, your Smush plugin will no longer have the feature premiums such as CDN or Bulk Smushing but all your images that you have Smushed will stay this way. The CDN does not move the actual image files to a server as they are only loaded through our network but keeping the files in your media library. You can also opt for doing a bulk restore of all your images smushed(in case you prefer) by going to Smush > Tools and using the bulk restore option.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Best,
    Jonathan S
