[Snapshot Pro] Disable Default Storage

0

Offer an option to save backups only on the storage we have selected. It should be possible to deactivate data storage on the wpmudev server.

    Hi pr24 ,

Hope this message finds you well.

Thank you for your suggestion! We truly value and understand it.

However, please note that Snapshot Backups are Incremental Backups. For these to function correctly, WPMU DEV Cloud storage is necessary because it allows WPMU DEV to fully manage the backups, including the transmission of complete backup files to any external destinations you set. This was also mentioned on this guide here.

    NOTE

Any third-party destinations that are added do not bypass the WPMU DEV Cloud Storage. Your backups go through the WPMU DEV Cloud Storage and from there, they are sent to the new destination. So, you can think of these third-party destination backups as full site copies of your last backup, rather than a new backup.

Currently, if you’d want to conserve some space within the WPMU DEV Cloud Storage, you have the option to adjust the Storage Limit to only one.

Appreciate your understanding with regards to this matter.

    Best Regards,
    Jasper

The data storage is actually too expensive for us, we currently need 3 TB for the backups on our server. The service may be worth its price, but in our case it seems to be too expensive. Anyway, i can only increase the storage space on WPMUDEV to a maximum of 1 TB for the backups. We wanted to test the automation and therefore use the “Create a Backup before Update” function. In principle, I don’t think we need any external storage at all for this. It would be enough to keep the backups warm locally for a few hours or days. For some websites and online stores, we would have to send more than 50 GB to the remote storage. This delays the process unnecessarily, which is why local storage would be preferable for this task.

    Hi pr24 ,

We do understand you, however, the way the incremental backups work transferring to the WPMU DEV Storage is essential for the backups to function as expected. As stated, consider decreasing the Storage Limit ie to 1, so that only one backup will be kept in the WPMU DEV storage.

With the above setup, you could use the FTP as a destination to save the backup in your local server.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin
