[Snapshot Pro] One-click Staging on Snapshot

1

Hello,

WP Remote, one of the largest competitors I would say to WPMUDEV has a really nice feature of one-click staging.

I see that it’s possible with the WPMUDEV hosting, but for me it’s not even a financially motivated decisions to stay on my server, it’s more so logistical.

My recommendation, to keep your competitive edge, is to allow staging onto the 50GB of storage that comes with Snapshot.

Feel free to reach out if you want more info.

With warm regards,

      Awesome @patrick.freitas!

Yeah you got it, it’s more so to let us create a “staging” backup; which unlike the regular backups Snapshot makes, this instead becomes a new staging WP site.

For the UX, you can have a nice checkbox next to the backup button:
Make staging (temporary editable WordPress site)

The way WP Remote has it, the url is a random mess of strings. I’ll share a really cool idea (you’re welcome to steal and implement it)!

The idea is to have a field where we can define the staging ID. Then the dev wizards to figure out the permissions to create the staging backup as subdirectory/subdomain site!

This would really set you apart, because random strings look ugly and not to mention unprofessional when sharing with clients – but could be tricky to implement with regards to permission. Nevertheless still wanted to share the idea.

A good place to take inspiration from I’d say in Local By Flywheel.

    Hi Erizon Macani

Thanks for getting back to us!

I think that really is a cool idea – it surely would be way more “user friendly” and professional to not have some random string but rather a real user-defined subdomain/subfolder.

I suppose subfolder in most cases would be the way to go as subdomains often require additional DNS and/or cPanel/server configuration that is not there and can’t be done by the plugin script. But nonetheless, it’s certainly something to consider.

I’ve added it to the feature idea that Patrick already forwarded to our developers.

Please note: the fact that we passed that over to our developers does not yet mean that it will be implemented for sure – so I’d rather not confirm it yet – but it will surely be reviewed and considered and, hopefully, eventually make it to the “coding table” :) Let’s also keep this thread open so other Members could comment on it – such support is also taken into consideration when making development plans.

    Best regards,
    Adam
