Snapshot working intermittently

Hi:

Something weird is going on with snapshot pro. According to the log files, it doesn’t look like any backups have been running for a couple of months at least. I have no idea where to look to start troubleshooting this. Any suggestions on where to look and what to look for would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I would like to provide more information on what I’m seeing. There are different issues in different installations.

    Installation #1 (Multisite, IIS)

Scheduled backups are not being completed at all. I did a manual run for one site and that completed fine. Files were uploaded to S3 for the manual run but remained in the filesystem instead of being deleted.

    Installation #2 (Multisite, IIS)

According to the snapshot files remaining behind on the file system, it looks like some backups are being done every day. But they are not being uploaded to S3 (and not being deleted locally). And the snapshot logs do not show the backups. The file timestamps show that they are being run very close together instead of approx 12 hours apart as should be (schedule is twice daily).

On this installation, there is one sub-site where the logs show no backups were done at all.

I would really appreciate some urgent help on troubleshooting this.

    Thanks.

    Hi @Nigel,

I hope had been good today!

You can make a manual backup? WP_DEBUG shows any notice/Warning related to the plugin?

In what website this is happen? Can you give us access to your admin panel, so we can check your issue?

If you don’t already know, please, follow the link below, to see how enable the staff login:

The snapshots that were successfully completed were manual ones I did today.

I did not change the schedule for any of them though. They are supposed to take snapshots once a day, sometimes twice per day (including today).

    Thanks!

    Hi @Nigel,

I hope had been good today!

Let’s deal with one Multisite at a time.

Regarding to the Multisite that you enabled the support access, you did “Run Now” in the scheduled snapshots?

I need to investigate further your issue, so, I will ask you FTP access to your website.

Please send it privately through our contact form:

Hi – yes I am only referring to one multisite – the one I gave you support access to. I think I mentioned above that I did a manual run on two of the scheduled items – in other words I did a “Run Now” on two of the items yesterday.

Unfortunately, the server does not have any FTP access. It is a dedicated windows server with Remote Desktop access only – there is no FTP server installed. I can set up a meeting to bring you onto the windows desktop of the server but we will need to set a fixed appointment time to do that since I need to be here to start the meeting after which i will turn control over to you.

    Thanks very much.

    Hey @Nigel, Michael here!

That mention of yours regarding the “ncubemedia-full” turned out to be quite useful, trying to do a live run (I created a snapshot of my own, called “WPMU DEV Test Snapshot”, based on your “ncubemedia-full” snapshot) resulted in a 500 Internal Server Error when it came time to backing up the plugins (which stopped the snapshot process, hence, why it hadn’t been created, much less sent to S3).

Ultimately, the changing of the “Select Compression Option” setting to “ZipArchive” got my test snapshot going, which should mean that your “ncubemedia-full” snapshot should work now, can you confirm this on your end please?

    Kind Regards,

    Michael

    Hi:

No, it did not work last night. It is currently scheduled to try to run again for 12:36 am cst tomorrow morning (just after midnight).

The other snapshots suddenly started working the day I posted the opening message on this thread. Before then it had been weeks since they had last run. Is there a requirement that I have to visit the snapshot page every day in order to get these things to run?

    Thanks very much!

Hey @Nigel, my apologies for the delay here!

You wouldn't need to visit the All Snapshots page in order to get this working, may I ask if you're still having issues with that "ncubemedia-full" snapshot of yours?

If so, then could you please send in the following via our secure contact form, so that some deeper troubleshooting could be done:

    – Mark to my attention, the subject line should contain only: ATTN: Michael Bissett

    – Do not include anything else in the subject line, doing so may delay our response due to how email filtering works.

    – Link back to this thread

    – Include WordPress network admin access details (login address, username & password)

    – Include FTP log-in details (hostname, username & password)

    – Include any relevant URLs for your site

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you select "I have a different question" for your topic, so it doesn't go back to the forums – this and the subject line ensure that it gets assigned to me.

    Hi:

It looks like that one has run over the last 3 days. And those .zip files were uploaded to amazon but not deleted locally (they should be deleted). Before dec 6, the last run was nov 29th and before that the last run was sept 21st. So, its hard to tell if its working properly or if this is just another intermittent period where its working and then will stop later.

Can you give me an email address to send the credentials to? I’ll send them via encrypted email. I’m not comfortable entering them in a contact form that may or may not be encrypted all the way through to the end point.

Also, there is no FTP server (its a windows server so we use RDP) but there is a FTP plugin installed so you can still access the file system using that.

    Thanks very much.
