Strange behaviour by wpmu

I don’t know if this is related with multi-db, but problems started after installing the plugin. It seems like my wpmu does lots of http requests by itself.

Notice that 65.254.61.189 is my server ip. Server mysql error log gives errors like this:

Any idea’s for this?

I think I got it fixed after logging some mysql queries. Someone exported a blog from wordpress.com and imported it to my blog host. After that, blog just kept “refreshing it’s front page” by itself causing tens of queries per second to the database.

Don’t know what was causing it, maybe different blog versions, plugins or something, but problem is gone after deleting that blog. I removed whole import option to avoid this issue in future.

    • WPMU DEV Initiate

It appeared almost daily for a last month or so, sometimes doing 99% of requests to the server. Blog wasn’t malicious itself, just basic content in it and I found nothing wrong with it. I know it was imported from wp.com, as I contacted the user about it. I thought it was because of multi-db, as it appeared just after I got it installed.

We usually see it with Arne’s sitemap plugin activated while doing an import. For every article imported, it updated the sitemap as well as sends out pings. Even with strict instructions to deactivate the plugin, folks leave it on and wind up pinging google hundreds of times within 60 seconds and getting themselves banned. Lots of fun.

Did you have a chance to look at the xml file? Only other thing that comes to mind right off is pingbacks but those would be specific urls, not just the general one.

edit: There wasn’t a call to wp-cron right before it, was there?

    – Was this happening 24/7 or just once in a while?

    – Could you see if anything was setting this off? Any patterns?
