Suggestion: Affiliate Plugin

Just a quick suggestion for the Affiliate Plugin.

Having a "Supporter payments settings" for free signups as well. We’d like to offer affiliates a payout for each new member that signs up, even before those members become "supporters".

Not sure how many others out there would find this useful as well, or if we’re just an odd duck, in which case we’ll go ahead and code it in just for ourselves.

    That’s exactly along our lines of thought (with different per member and payout numbers of course).

    Pay a small amount for each free member, then the larger amounts once they go premium, and have a set amount that must be reached before payout.

    If you’re going to do that, you’ll also need a system in place to check for fraud. Or at least once fraud is found, remove the incorrect amount or payout.

    I’m curious to see if anyone else wants that feature.

    -1 for that for the above reasoning. I’m not against the idea but without that checking, it would cause more problems I would think.

    We briefly considered fraud issues, but don’t think it’s going to be a problem with the free account payouts. We’re talking CPAs not CPCs.

    As each member needs to validate their email address before they’re registered (at least on our site), anyone that wanted to commit mass fraud would be need to have a multitude of valid accounts on a multitude of valid domains.

    Then you’d need a bot of some sort that included the ability to bypass captcha, automatically check the slew of email accounts for confirmation codes and post those, etc. etc.

    Technically possible sure. But that would be a TON of trouble to go through for the type of payouts that we’re thinking at the free account level, and fraud of that sort would become apparent very rapidly.

    Anyone with that level of sophistication and gull is going to be using stolen databases of credit cards to go after big money, not trolling for nickles and dimes on blog sites.

    If some affiliate without sophistication tries to sign up 4 or 5 accounts to make a couple bucks that’s not an issue, as they’d not reach the minimum payout anyway.

    Just my 2cents.

    Of Course: I could be dead wrong and you might see me on here ranting and raving in the near future about an affiliate from hell, haha.
