[The Hub Client] 2 Feature Ideas – Hub Client

0

RE : Possible feature request.

As a freelancer, I do offer other services other than hosting & web development.

1. I’m curious if there are any plans to include any sort of expense tracking system so that reports can be made easier when filling for end of year assessments / if there is another feature within the hub client that’s planned?

2. Project management and storing files for clients, I currently upload all my source files and documents that my clients may need to their individual WHMCS project portal management area, this ensure clients have a central place to download any finished design source files. Is this something that may be considered later down the line? Not to the same scope but at least a method to allow clients to see completed projects > files available within a given project.

Totally understand if either are out of scope.

Kind Regards
Shiv

With full respect for your wants and needs, if this specific vendor went down that specific path, I would terminate my relationship with them. WPMU DEV attracted us with their dedication to WordPress plugins, and WordPress expertise and support. Their focus has always been on improving the site administration experience. They retired most of their plugins but they remain true to their core offering. The Hub, white labeling, and Hosting all fits with that. Accounting, asset tracking, time logging, data storage, document collaboration, and similar services are general business applications, not WordPress-specific. I personally would not want this valued vendor to spend my subscription dollars on non-WordPress development. Thousands of other companies already provide those services.

As always, where I would see value would be in APIs that help us to integrate, the data we exchange with WPMU DEV about our sites, and any other environment that we wish. If they focus on APIs for the Hub, Hosting, and their plugins, we all win. The latest word on this is that they are doing major work in other areas now and they will reconsider APIs when they get through this – probably into next year. That’s OK by me.

    All IMHO. YMMV. TYVM. LOL

I absolutely get what Tony G is saying buuuuuut it’s important to note that we already have users (read, colleagues or clients) and so it’s not out of order that you should be able to interact with them as the account holder in certain ways.

In the simplest sense, you could show a specific user (or more likely a user type, as set by roles) a notification.

In a more powerful sense you could use THC to provide them with specific services customized to their needs.

Now *of course* we don’t wanna go down the path of recreating dropbox, or trying to be Figma etc. buuuut if you use the upcoming billing functionality then there will definitely be per user $s tracking included and there’s no reason you couldn’t have a simple file-swap-storage system built in if that was something that made users happy.

We want to make people happy – but we don’t wanna just add in stuff for the sake of it :)
