[The Hub Client] White Label Manual Install Download

0

Can it be set up so the file that’s downloaded from the hub doesn’t reference WPMU at all… would be nice if it pulled the name from TheHub… and also have it so that when it’s installed it shows that name instead of WPMU DEV in the menu item? (Maybe have it apply pre-configured white label settings from the hub client).

    Hi TheG33k ,

Possible to provide further information regarding what use cases you’ll think it’ll be helpful? Are you referring to the manual zip downloads? or with plugins installed via the WPMU DEV Dashboard?

By default, the download of the plugin is not available through the Hub and only installations are possible. So want to confirm the workflow you are looking to achieve.

The purpose of installing the WPMU DEV Dashboard is to provide a client with a pre-configured website that already has the WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin. Therefore, any renaming or hiding of the plugin has to be carried out on the website side using the Whitelabel feature of the WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin.

In our upcoming release, we will be introducing the Reseller feature which should simplify the workflow of manually setting up a client’s website and offer an out-of-the-box experience which includes choosing hosting servers, and preconfigured templates which can be white labelled for the clients out of the box.

I suppose the Reseller feature should cover what you are looking to achieve.

So I’m talking about when you choose to do the manual connection and you have to download the dashboard plugin. At least have it pull the name of the team from The Hub Client so when it shows up in the client’s wp-admin dashboard it doesn’t say “WPMU DEV” just in case someone from the client side is in admin area when you install it.

    Hi TheG33k ,

So are you referring only to the WPMU DEV menu? The WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin or its menu by default will only be visible for the admin who has installed and activated the plugin and hidden for other admin accounts.

As stated before, the purpose of using the WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin is to provide a client with a preconfigured website with the required plugins already installed and configured from the WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin.

Hence there isn’t any feature to change the menu name for the WPMU DEV menu as the plugin won’t be visible to other admins and is meant to be only accessed by the admin account which is specific for you.

So chances for clients to notice the WPMU DEV menu is only possible if the admin login is shared or granted access, however, providing clients access to the admin account where the WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin is visible would also defeat the purpose of white labelling as the plugin has references to WPMU DEV in many places and I’m afraid it isn’t possible to change all such references easily without rewriting the whole plugin.

Could we know what workflow you follow with setting up client sites, so that we could have a better idea and what further improvements that could be looked at?

At the moment, I’m afraid any other workflows other than those stated above will require manual white labelling using the Branda plugin or with custom coding.

The reseller feature once implemented should help with reducing all the steps taken with installing or setting up the admin account or plugin. So you should be able to manage the client website much better via that.

Please advise if I’m missing out on anything.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin
