Too many redirects error with mapped domain on DEV Hosting

I mapped a domain to my wpmudev hosted site: +++++.wpmudev.host but when I visit the domain mow.gr or http://www.+++++.gr, I receive too many redirects error.

I changed the DNS in cloudflare to point to my hosts IP as shown in the domains tab in Hub page.

Initially the DNS validation turned green and the SSL generated and the site then displayed ok for a few minutes, but then the DNS validation turned red again and that’s when we got the too many redirects issue.

Currently i’ve reverted my DNS IP back to my hostgator IP address so the site isn’t offline for long.

    Hi Mike Papadopoulos

    I hope you’re well today!

I see that domain is currently pointing to CloudFlare but I believe site’s still served from HostGator as I don’t see the domain added to our host. I noticed that the SSL settings were mentioned during the chat but I’m not sure if you tried that already or not so let me clear it up a bit.

CloudFlare needs SSL mode to be set to “Full (strict)”, otherwise it will either “complain” about SSL not validating or will cause “Too many redirects” error. However, that setting requires an existing and valid SSL certificate on the target server. In such case try this way:

    1. set CF DNS to point to your WPMU DEV IPs

    2. set CloudFlare to “pass through” mode – so it essentially becomes “transparent” (this can be done by switching this yellow “cloud icon” in CF dashboard)

    3. then add the domain to your WPMU DEV server and wait; after a short while it should validate DNS and setup SSL

    4. once that is ready go back to CloudFlare, set SSL mode to “Full (strict)”

    5. after that switch off “pass through” there to enable CloudFlare again

This should do the trick so give it a try please and let me know if it worked for you.

    Best regards,

    Adam
