User's can't get to the login page

my domain is 20now.me.

When I create someone’s login/site the form asks for the sub-domain name (i.e. “user” for “user.20now.me”. I enter “user” and they are sent a welcome email saying they can now login to user.20now.me/wp-login.php

I continue setting up their install which means switching their domain name from “user.20now.me” to “user.com”.

They get the welcome email and when they click the link they are redirected to 20now.me/wp-signup.php?new=user

Since I don’t have public signup there’s no way now for them to login.

When I create their account can I just put in their full domain name instead of just their user name? Or is there an easier way to create a full-domain user rather than creating a subdomain for them first?

Or maybe even, is there a way to leave the subdomain active even when they have a full-domain? that way either version of the login links would work.

Thanks!

    Hi @Richard

Let's see if we can get this sorted, shall we?

I assume you are creating the sub-domain sites from your WordPress network admin, as seen in the 1st screenshot below?

Do the users already exist in your network when you create a new site for them? Or are you also adding the users manually?

When you say you "continue setting up their install which means switching their domain name", how exactly are you performing that task? Are you using a plugin? If so, which one? is it our Domain Mapping plugin?

Yep, with the exception I'm using subdomains instead of paths (screenshot below).

And as indicated on the form, it's "user".20now.me that is created, which isn't exactly what they want their site to be, they want to use a full domain name of their own, not a subdomain on my server.

Do the users already exist in your network when you create a new site for them? Or are you also adding the users manually?

They don't already exist. I don't add them manually, as the text at the bottom of both our screenshots indicates, the user is created if that email doesn't already exist in the database.

Net effect: I don't have to create the user.

When you say you "continue setting up their install which means switching their domain name", how exactly are you performing that task? Are you using a plugin? If so, which one? is it our Domain Mapping plugin?

Yes, I am using the WPMU Domain Mapping plugin.

To change to their domain name I click on "Sites", find their site in the list, click "Edit" and change the domain from the subdomain version of the site to the full name version of their site. I've screenshot that page below.

The account was created for them (first screenshot) and that email has "user".20now.me as the login link, but by the time they click that link I've already done away with the subdomain (second screenshot) and that link no longer works.

Maybe this isn't the optimal way to do this – if not, please let me know if there's an easier or more correct way.

    Thanks!

    Hi again @Richard

Instead of changing the site from “user”.20now.me, I need to just let them go to domain mapping and do it there themselves.

Yep, that’s why I asked whether you were using our plugin, because it was designed to make mapping easy for your users.
