Using Jetpack and Askimet

This is a general question — with each wordpress installation there is always links to Jetpack and Askimet as if I am supposed to be using these. With the services you offer do I need to install these?

    Hello Ilene,

    Akismet is very powerful spam preventing tool for comments, so if you have blog then this is quite handy plugin.

    Using Akismet or Jetpack is not obligatory – that really depends on your needs.

    Jetpack has many, many modules.

    For Jetpack some services are duplicated, like SEO tools, backups, security services or plugin managment – but for example we don’t offer CDN for images and video or galleries modules, so if you need those then you can consider using it.
