Videos – is it possible to localize them?

1

Hi, I have been thinking many times about this – is there any way how to enable localization for your video tutorials? Just adding subtitles would really help (and then fixing the version of video loaded to get the right translation, or send us a short notice about change), allowing dabbing would be really cool too.

    Hello Karolina,

I hope you’re well today and thank you for this suggestion!

I don’t think adding other voice-overs to these videos would be possible but subtitles sound really great. I’m not sure if this is currently doable in tech terms but it surely make a nice feature.

I can see that you posted it already on our “Features & Feedback” forum so let’s see if more WPMU DEV members will support the idea. As you probably know already such features are added upon community requests so if a significant number of members will vote for subtitling feature it’s highly possible that our Growth Team will consider adding it in future.

Thanks for sharing this idea with us!

    Have a nice day,

    Adam

I’m surprised to see this idea hasn’t been updated. I was just looking to translate video tutorials, and open a feature request.

At least, if we can download the videos, then we can use some AI tools to translate. This won’t really make any WPMUDEV teams in trouble of generating multi langauge versions of all the videos.

    Hi Takuya

There was pretty much no requests for this since this one nearly 8 years ago and usually that means that given feature isn’t really expected much by Members. Most of such features/changes are made due to community requests and if a given idea doesn’t get pretty much any support – it may take quite some time to get it implemented or it’s not added at all because there are other tasks that needs to be prioritized.

I understand that it sounds like a “easy peasy” task to provide such translations but there are always additional aspects involved that make it still require assigning some noticeable work time and testing.

That said, we always keep features requests like this open and it’s often that some idea doesn’t “get it” when it’s posted but then it’s “catching up” after some times (sometimes it’s weeks, sometimes years) and suddenly gains attention and support from Community – getting a “new life” and making it’s way up on the priority list fast.

So we’ll keep this open as well and let’s see what happens.

If it comes to making those videos downloadable – please do start a separate feature requests ticket as this one is a bit different and already pretty old. There’s a bigger chance it will get noticed by Community Members and get support if it will be a fresh request.

    Best regards,
    Adam
