Why won't this plugin update itself?

Every time an update comes out for this plugin there is no upgrade link…just a download update link. That’s crazy! Having to download the plugin, uninstall the old one, upload the new one and activate across all my sites is insane. Am I missing something here?

    Hello trestian!

You can update the WPMU Dev dashboard from the admin panel without having to re-install it.

It will have a 1 on the top of the WPMU Dev dashboard in your admin side bar TOP LEFT, also via the plugin update you can just select it, also if you click the updates in the upper admin tool bar you will have an option to update it there.

    Enjoy!

    Greetings trestian,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues regarding updating this plugin.

As MTB1701 there are a couple of ways to updating your plugins though the most common way I personally use is the one he mentioned using the plain old WordPress updates section.

When all else fails I then FTP in and wax the folder of the old version and then upload the new version into place.

Please advise if you managed to get this handled.

    Cheers, Joe

I don’t see the plain old updates section. I use ManageWP to manage all of our WP sites and this tool is also unable to automatically upgrade the WPMU Dev plugin. On many of my sites i don’t see any WPMU Dev toolbar either.

    Greetings trestian,

Thank you for your additional feedback, it is certainly appreciated.

I use ManageWP to manage all of our WP sites and this tool is also unable to automatically upgrade the WPMU Dev plugin.

It can be pretty challenging to support other peoples work, but we do our best here to help you if possible.

I know nothing about WP Manage though I do know about WPMU Dev Dashboard.

It is my impression from your input that you will indeed need to update WPMU Dev Dashboard via the regular WordPress network admin and then you will be able to use WP Manage to do the rest of the updates automatically through the regular updates or plugin menu selection.

On many of my sites i don’t see any WPMU Dev toolbar either.

Are they separate networks or sub sites of the same network?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe

Something isn't working correctly with my sites as there is no update link and no WPMU Dev Dashboard. Screenshot attached. These are all individual sites not multi site. Any issues with Better WP Security perhaps?

Please click the link you see in the Snip Shot and report back, also how did you get contact form 7 and Gforms to work on a single site install? It did not work for me last time i tried. It blanked out some of my pages including my WPMU Dev dashboard.

    Greetings trestian,

Thank you for your additional feedback, it is certainly appreciated.

Have you tried logging into the site directly, outside of Manage WP? as the Super Admin/Network Admin and see if the WPMU Dev Dashboard then shows up?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe

    MTB1701,

I don’t have any issues with Contact Form 7. I’m not sure I’m even using it anymore. Also this affects many of my sites not just this one and this is the only one with Contact Form 7. Clicking the Download Update link just takes me to a place to download the update but it’s a huge pain to uninstall the old one and reinstall a new one as opposed to just click update.

    Joe,

I have tried updating the plugin directly through the site dashboard. I even uninstalled ManageWP entirely and tried updating. No luck.

    Thanks!

    Greetings Yaron,

Thank you for the additional feedback which is certainly appreciated.

The toughest thing about this is that we cannot replicate the issue and quickly running out of options here.

At this point I am wondering if it is another rogue mod security problem like we found with Host Gator and Googles Open Graph in which they are blocking the function. If so the following command placed in the htaccess file should fix it:

    SecFilterEngine Off

It will either work or you will get an error 500 which in turn means that mod security is not on and you just remove the statement.

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe
