[WPMU DEV Dashboard] Increase zip filesize limit for plugins in the hub

1

I am trying to upload the WordPress Multilingual plugin installer zip file to the Hub but it’s failing because its 15.5MB.

This is a very important plugin for my clients because most of them do business in the US and Canada and they like to have English and French translations.

Can this limit be increase to 20-25MB? Seems like that would be enough for most plugins at that size.

    Hi Wiz

    Thanks for response!

We had a chance to test it with another big plugin meanwhile so it’s no longer necessary to provide the file – but thank you for your cooperation on that!

Limit increase is already suggested to our Hub Team so I hope it will be implemented soon (though I don’t have ETA at this point).

    Best regards,
    Adam

Interestingly enough, I’m not sure if this functions how I was expecting. I was hoping to upload the plugin so it could be part of my deployments to WPMUdev hosted sites automatically. It’s asking me to choose a site to upload it to.

By chance, am I confused and this is only for adding to current sites and not future ones?

    Hi Wiz

This actually is how it worked from the very start, nothing has changed about it. We don’t provide a space to create “custom plugin repository” where you store plugins. It’s pretty much the same as regular “Plugins -> Add plugin -> Upload” feature within your WordPress site, except:

    – it’s in the Hub so together with all the other “centralized management” of your sites
    – and, unlike WP built-in plugin upload, you can push plugin to multiple sites at once.

We don’t plan changing that for now as it would very quickly start requiring enormous amounts of additional storage and most likely we’d soon need to turn this feature to a paid add-on due to storage costs.

I can’t say for sure that it won’t change some time in future – nothing is set in stone – but I’d rather make no promises as for now there are no plans for that.

    Kind regards,
    Adam
