Just a fyi in case folks haven’t see it. Donncha’s domain mapping plugin now supports www.
ocaoimh.ie/wordpress-30-domain-mapping-052/
There’s also an option for accessing the backend with either the original url or the mapped one. I;m strongly against that but others may see a need for it.
